30's Nine Patch 30’s Nine Patch
By: chrisb, Australia

I made this to try out the Quilting design on the border and to use up some inherited pastels and some of my 30’s fabrics. Meant to be nice and quick but the hourglass fabric shrank when I was pressing and I had to go back and recut every 9 patch. Grrrrr

By: Eli, Arizona, USA

This fun little disappearing 9-patch was made for close friends’ son’s 1st birthday. They are big fans of Dr. Seuss (and who isn’t?), so when the new Dr. Seuss fabric line was released last year, I knew it had to be his!

Blooming Nine Patch Blooming Nine Patch
By: Darlene Gerber, Ohio, USA

I say my first Blooming Nine Patch at a local quilt show and decided to make one using directions I found on the internet. Using my 1990’s stash caused me to run out of fabric and I had to redo some of the blocks to complete the quilt. Now I have to figure out what fabric to use for the binding.

I used peaches, greens and fuschia colors to remind me a mango with larger blocks of tie dye fabric. The back is a large piece of tie dye fabric which has beautiful colors that match the front.

Nine Patch Checkerboard Nine Patch Checkerboard
By: Ana Earl, Texas, USA

Using Bonnie Hunters leaders ‘n enders method of sewing sqs. I made enough 3 patches to make the blocks. It was a great way to use up those left over 2″ scraps I had been cutting for yrs. The piano key border came out of my scrap bin also. It was a good quilt to practice my machine quilting!

So, there are only 9-patches in the border, and some of the blocks, but there are a lot of them. I made this quilt for the Thread Head quiltalong and added my own pieced border. 9-patch is such a simple block, but so versatile. The quilt is for my teenage son, who loves it!

I’ve made many 9-patch quilts–wish I could post more than one! This was made on New Year’s Eve. I found a stack of bright 9p blocks and the setting fabric (a thrift-shop bargain) was perfect. I contributed it to a charity auction and it brought $150!

Seasons Seasons
By: Rhoda Forbes, British Columbia, Canada

I embroidered the panels over the winter, and had no idea how I would incorporate them into a quilt. Nine patch, being my favorite block, came to mind. I used recycled material, plaids from men’s shirts, and cream 100%cotton to create the nine patches. I was thrilled with the end result.

Hand pieced and hand quilted out of scraps given me by a friend,I had fun arranging the one-inch blocks into darks and lights. The snowball fabric is a white floral print. After piecing a border, I found this stripe fabric in a shop and liked it better. This is one of the first quilts I made for fun

By: Starwood Quilter, Colorado, USA

I made this quilt using a pattern called Disappearing Nine Patch. I used to live in Texas and miss the springtime there. I use this quilt as a tablecloth. It brightens up our spring in Colorado, when there’s still snow on the ground! I love this fabric line – Moda Hill Country Spring.

I made this quilt with scraps from a previous project when my husband ask me if I had any brown in my stash, all your quilts are bright. Since the quilt has that modern feel I opted for modern quilting with a touch of girly in the 9 patch.
