DS QAL: Lesson 5 – Block 19, Sashing & Section G

Delightful Stars Quilt-Along

For this week’s Delightful Stars Quilt-Along (DS QAL) lesson we are making Block #19, cutting sashing strips and joining Section G.

Block #19 is the fourth in the series of sawtooth star blocks. This one has a a square-in-a-square centre section:

Most, but not all, of the star blocks in this quilt will be surrounded by sashing strips so that the stars float in the background and don’t touch each other. To cut multiple strips of fabric the same size, I use my June Tailor Shape Cut Ruler. This is one of my highly recommended, time-saving, tools.

Here’s a video showing how this ruler works:

When we can, we will be sewing the centre blocks together into seven sections, that will then be joined together in August to complete the centre top section. This week, we’ve joined Section G which appears in the bottom, right corner:

Downloading the DS QAL File

If you used my Add to Cart option to purchase the QAL, an email update notice was sent earlier this week to your PayPal email address. The subject will say “Update for 2014 Delightful Stars Quilt-Along” .. and inside the message is “Download file: View Purchase Online”. When you click that “View Purchase Online” link, your web browser will open and you will have a screen that looks similar to the one below with the Big Blue Download button. Click that button and save the file to your computer’s hard drive.

If you joined the QAL through Craftsy, visit the pattern page to download the latest version. You may need to login first so they don’t ask you to pay again. Remember, you cannot download Craftsy patterns from your mobile device, you must login to your account with a computer to save the file.

Remember: If you miss downloading a file for the quilt-along. No worries, just download the latest file and you’ll be good to go. Each new file replaces the previous file. Refer to the change log contained in the file for info on the latest updates.
