What is your quilting style?
I like to take traditional quilting elements and put my own modern spin on them. The quilt below is called Fancy Flocks and was designed for a friend’s baby. I took flying geese (traditional) and used them to make faux chevrons.
How did you get started quilting and/or designing?
My mom has quilted my entire life and when my niece was born 10 years ago I decided to make her a baby quilt. It was a very simple rail patch quilt in pinks and purples and she loved it to death – after that I was hooked!
Do you have a favourite quilt?
My favourite quilt is probably the Trip to Trinidad quilt that I made about 5 years ago. It is all in batiks and the pattern I followed made it super simple! I think this is my favourite because the colors make me so happy. It also reminds me of Tahiti which is where I trace my maternal roots to.

Block 8 – Melissa’s Old Snowflake
Here’s Melissa’s Old Snowflake block. Isn’t it adorable. I just love that striped fabric. There are a few other colour variations on Melissa’s site too. The block includes paper-piecing for the corner units, but don’t worry if you’ve never done PP before, Melissa explains how in her tutorial. Head over to Melissa’s blog for the tutorial to complete her block.
