Bare Feet Bare Feet
By: Karen Martin,
Minnesota, USA

Living in Northern Minnesota, I love the too few days of the year when I can run around without heavy socks and boots–that is truely a summer vacation to me! I made this quilt for a guild challenge: “June Is…”. It was also the theme of our quilt show earlier this summer.

Gone Fishing Gone Fishing
By: Judee Koda,
California, USA

My husband’s idea of a summer vacation is a fishing trip. My idea is to be able to sew to my heart’s content. While he was on one of his trips, I pulled together these fabrics and created a small wallhanging. The background looked to me like under water so the fish are in their usual environment.

What I did on my Summer Vacation…I finished a quilt! Iris are some of the most interesting summer flowers. Their color variations and unusual shapes make a beautiful quilt. A Margaret Sullivan pattern, enlarged and pieced using Ruth McDowell’s techniques.

A quilted patchwork kite is the perfect decoration for any child or babies room and screams SUMMER to me. This kite is made out of Frolic In the Beginning Fabric. The tail is made by weaving three strips of fabric together. I added fabric tail ties on with sparkly yarn to add that final touch.

Normally we’re on the road with our 5 kids in our motorhome over the 4th of July. This year we stayed home. I decided I needed a fun summer quilt to use for a tablecloth. I dug through my Moda cupboard and came up with Summer Fun. I used the Fig Tree Jelly Parfait pattern. Meet Summer Parfait!

Summer Roses is a square machine-pieced and quilted wall hanging. Fabrics are Barefoot Roses from Tanya Whelan’s designs. I designed and quilted this little Mini Quilt especially for my BR. My intent is to make more and hang as a grouping on one wall, rather like one does photos sometimes.
