Reminders and Congrats

Sarah Jane will be awarding one lucky winner from the Quilting Gallery a one-year membership to the site My Quilt Patch. Sign up for the free trial, (enter the referral source as Quilting Gallery), before the end of October to be entered in the draw. More info…

What does quilting mean to you? Answer this question, in the comment section of Chris Dahl’s guest blogger post and you will be entered into the random draw to win a free class at Quilting Weekly. To be eligible, submit your answer/comment before the end of October.

Congratulations to Sharon Schamber for winning the Best in Show at this year’s Houston Quilt Festival for her quilt The Spirit of Mother Earth. I’d also like to say thanks to Sharon for posting such detailed photos on her web site. It is a real treat to be able to see so closely the gorgeous stitching.

Ugly Fabric Contest

Please note: This contest has nothing to do with the Quilting Gallery web site, I just thought it sounded like fun.

The winner will receive a $15.00 gift certificate to Flamingo Island Designs web store. Here’s how it works:

  1. Go through your stash and find your ugliest fabric, you know the one that when you look at it you say to yourself, “What was I thinking?” Dig deep and find that turkey! It will surely not be a lovely flamingo fabric, but who knows what you may find hidden in there.
  2. Cut 2 – 8″ squares and put your name and email on the back.
  3. Send the squares to:
    Floozies Ugly Fabric Contest
    Flamingo Island Designs
    8165 25th St
    Vero Beach, FL
    32966 (USA)
  4. Your squares must arrive by Wednesday, November 26, 2008.

The winner will be chosen by a random drawing from all entries on Thanksgiving Day. In addition to the Gift Certificate, the winner will receive a set of the turkeys we collect. The second set of the turkeys will be donated to the Sunbonnet Sues Quilting Guild in Vero Beach, Florida and will be used in a charity quilt.

Robyn from Daisy Quilts gave me a Wylde Woman Award for inspiration. She wrote: You inspire me for bringing our quilting world much closer. Thanks :c). Thank you Robyn for your very kind words and for thinking of me.

It’s been a good week! I have finished a quilt, just going to throw it in the wash to fluff it up. More tomorrow, it’s a gift!!

UPDATE: Trisha has a tutorial on using the X-Blocks ruler that she used when creating the quilt above.

Lazy Days of Summer Photo Contest

lazy-days-of-summer

We’re well into August, and soon Summer will be over. Did it ever start in Ottawa? We’ve had a cooler than normal and very wet summer here. For me who loves it hot and sunny, I keep waiting for those days. I’m glad to be heading South next week, where I hope I’ll find some of that heat and sunshine.

What better way to say goodbye to the summer that never was, than having a Lazy Days of Summer Photo Contest.

What have you been working on this summer? (or this winter for my lovely quilting friends in the southern hemisphere).

Guidelines:

Send me a photo via email of your latest quilting project. If it’s not 100% done, that’s OK too. Include your name, quilt title and your blog address (if you have one). Just one submission per person, please.

Submissions will be accepted up to the end of August 31, 2008.

Every week or so, I’ll do a blog post of the previous week’s submissions.

Early September, site visitors will be able to vote for their favourite. I’ll announce the winners around September 10, 2008.

The Prizes:

There will be three lucky winners. Here are the prizes.

A Lazy Days of Summer wall hanging that I’ve been working on:

And, Lynn over at Fiber Fantasies has very generously donated a dozen gorgeous hand-dyed fat quarters. We’re going to split the dozen for two winning prizes of 6 each. (I wish I could enter, as I love these fabrics… wow!)

hand dyed cottons

Lynn wrote: “When I hand dye cottons, I use PFD cotton, ProChem reactive dyes, rinse excess with Synthrapol, then machine wash in hot water with Synthrapol. They are ‘ready to use’.”

Email me your submissions!

P.S. Feel free to use the Lazy Days of Summer Photo Contest graphic at the top of this post on your own site to promote the contest. Thanks!
