Welcome everyone to Lesson 14 of the Aiming for Accuracy Quilt-Along (A4AQAL). For this week, we’ll be putting together Section B of our quilt top. It’s a pretty quick and easy lesson.
If you’re new here, check out the main QAL page where you’ll find all the information so that you can join us on this QAL adventure.
We have weekly prizes that everyone can enter. Each Sunday (evening), there will be a blog post available on the Quilting Gallery site, where you can upload your completed photo for that week’s lesson. Check the main QAL page for the link. You’ll have until the following Sunday evening to enter.
Our Volunteer Prize Coordinator, Amy Gay of Butterfly Angels Quilting, will choose winners on Monday and will announce the winners on the prize blog post, in our Facebook Group and send emails. Please be sure to check your spam folder as Amy has been having difficulty reaching some of the winners from previous lessons.
Lesson 14 – Units B7 and Section B
Unit B7 contains the filler pieces needed to complete Section B. The star block with the right-side sashing strip is Unit B1 completed in Lesson 6. Unit B7 has six HSTs that are attached to Unit B1 and three larger rectangles, separated by contrast blocks, that get attached to the bottom along with sashing strips.
Cut your fabrics using the following cutting instructions.
Note that the two contrast rectangles, 2" x 6.5", are not sashing strips. They should be the last two blocks that you cut at the beginning.
If you prefer, you could make your HSTs all scrappy. In which case, just cut six (6) 3" squares in print fabrics that you desire.
With the P1 and P2 squares, create six (6) HST units. Follow the HST Tutorial, if needed. Trim the HSTs to 2.5" square.
Assemble the HST units into a single strip following the orientation in the diagram. This segment should measure 2.5" W x 12.5" H.
Attach the HST segment to the right side of Unit B1, adjacent to the sashing strip.
Attach one of the 15.5" x 1.5" sashing strips to the top of the unit created above.
This unit now measures 15.5" W x 13.5" H.
With the three (3) P3 rectangles, piece them together with the two (2) 2" x 6.5" contrast rectangles in the middle. This segment should measure 15.5" W x 6.5" H.
Attach sashing strips (15.5" x 1.5") to both the top and bottom of the pieced unit. With the sashing strips attached, this unit measures 15.5" W x 8.5" H.
Attach the two segments created in Steps 2 and 3 above to complete Unit B7.
Completed Unit B7 = 15.5" W x 21.5" H
Completed Section B = 48.5" W x 21.5" H
