Abstraction Abstraction
By: Connie, Oregon, USA

This is a Paul Klee inspired original piece. I appliqued the pieces of fabric in a base layer of black fabric. It is my first totally appliqued piece.

Bold over by stained glass Bold over by stained glass
By: Robyn McPherson, Australia

The purchase of a Creative Iron stencil and a grab bag of Bold Over Batiks lead to the centre panel. Each of the small sections was fussy cut from the batiks. The setting was planned to look like bricks and the remnants of the batiks were used in the outer border.

Cathedral Cathedral
By: Jeri Beitel, New Mexico, USA

I visited Durham Cathedral in Northern England several years ago. I had always wanted to go there because it is an example
of the first Gothic Cathedral. This piece is a combination of fragments of different windows there, with some interpretation by me.

Christmas Angel Christmas Angel
By: CHERYL HAMILTON, Manitoba, Canada

I made this angel quilt before the easier bias tape method was introduced. Doing all that machine sewing was an amazing experience, however I enjoyed every stitch. I have a twin pattern to make and hope to complete it soon, but may decide to use the alternate method next quilt.

Forever Calla Lily Forever Calla Lily
By: Ruth O, Ontario, Canada

Don’t you just love Calla Lilies? They are so simple and beautiful, and yet stunning. A friend had made a similar wallhanging and I just had to make my own version. It’s one of my favorite quilts.

Garden in Paradise Garden in Paradise
By: Norma, Alabama, USA

This is a doll quilt I made last month for a swap partner. It features trapunto and heavy free motion quilting. The coloring was done using a tinting technique (you can find the tutorial on my blog)

Go In Peace Go In Peace
By: LizA., Washington, USA

This was made as a banner to hang on the balcony of our church. You see it and walk out underneath it as you exit the sanctuary.

In Awe and Wonder In Awe and Wonder
By: Lindy, Washington, USA

A summery quilt pattern in an Elenore Burns book made me think, “Stained Glass!”. I used batiks on black satin. I pieced every inch of this wall hanging, and did my best work, as I wanted to display it in our church. (But, if I ever do it again, I will ‘cheat’ and heat and bond the sucker!)

kronkels kronkels
By: Katrien Pattyn, Belgium

I found a drawing and for me it was a good one for making my first stained glass. It is maked in batiks

Lancaster Rose Bud Lancaster Rose Bud
By: Kathi, Pennsylvania, USA

Designed by Carol Blevins, the technique uses iron on 1/4″ bias tape to hold the pieces together, then stitched down with a twin needle. Soft and flexible, not stiff. This is the quilt our FB friends looked for when meeting up for the first time in AQS Lancaster 2010. It hangs in my studio.

Silent Night Silent Night
By: Leah, Australia

Designed by Runaway Quilts, who seem to be out of business now, this stained glass quilt is a step away from the usual Christmas quilt. I bought the kit in 2002, and finally sewed it in time for Christmas 2008.

I was skeptical when I read this week’s theme was stained glass and now is am in awe to see the results. Some people know I don’t leave many of my comments unspoken, so, “Cathedral” left me speechless. Considering the HUGE amount of work that went in to this piece. The colour and design are unique. This piece is a one of a kind. Well done Jeri, I hope you have great feelings of accomplishment.

The stained glass quilts are awsome. I think each and everyone is a winner. Great work.

Is it just me or is one of the submitted quilts getting quite a few votes NOT a stained glass quilts? It’s a beautiful piece but I don’t think it should be included in the competition.
    Just IMHO.

    Hi Leilani,

I leave theme interpretation up to each quilter that wants to submit a quilt. I try not to “police” the entries, as then the contests wouldn’t be FUN anymore.

    Thanks for the comment.
    Michele
