How did you get into quilting?
My mom taught me the basics of quilting when I was pregnant with my son and on bedrest in 2008. We made a quilted bib (and I thought it took forever!) After he was born in 2009, I decided to try my hand at quilting again. I loved it and was pretty much instantly addicted.
How/when/why did you transition from a quilter to a designer?
My background is in math, web development and graphic design. So it felt natural for me to try my hand at quilt design. I wanted to share my ideas with other self-taught quilters, so I started designing quilt patterns to post on my blog. My first pattern on my blog was my Lemon Squares quilt pattern. From there, I started developing for-sale patterns as well.
Which quilt is your favourite? Did you design it? Why is it your favourite?
That’s tough…but my current favorite is my Starfall quilt. I designed it for the Sewing Summit as a sample of what you can make with partial seams. I am currently in the process of writing a pattern for it – but it won’t be available until Spring 2013
How many UFOs do you currently have? Oh boy….not sure but probably around 10.
What size of quilt do you prefer to make/design? Lap quilts – big enough to use, but not so big that I get tired of piecing them before they are done or frustrated quilting them.
What colour do you use most often in your quilts? White/Neutrals – I use those in almost every quilt, mixed with lots of color.
Favourite one-sentence tip for a new quilter: Press, press, press.
Favourite size and brand of rotary cutter: 45 mm Olfa Rotary Cutter
Favourite quote or mantra: Get your nose out of your quilt.
