Today is my special day to help Gudrun Erla celebrate 10 years in the United States, the 10th anniversary of her quilt design company, GE Designs and the release of her newest book, Fast & Furious Home. Don’t miss the great give-aways below too.
I’ve been trying to remember when I first came across Gudrun’s work, and I can’t remember if I met her at Quilt Market one year or if it was this adorable Sweet Trimmings wall hanging tutorial.
Being last on this blog hop tour, meant I got to read all of the posts from the other bloggers and came across this great interview that our friends at the Fat Quarter Shop did with Gudrun at Spring Quilt Market:
Then I discovered that Gudrun used to be a physical education teacher, but what caught my attention and made me laugh was the Quiltmaker Shuffle that she organized:
Gudrun is famous for her quilt-as-you-go patterns. Let’s take a closer look at some of the projects in her new Fast & Furious Home book:
The first on my list to make once my book arrives will be the Diamond Charmer Table Topper. I love the unique shape and the design.

I have not YET made a quilt-as-you-go project. But I’m planning to make Gudrun’s Sweet Trimmings to hang on my door this Christmas. This blog hop has been so fun; I’d never heard of Gudrun before this. I’ve fallen in love with what I’ve seen.
I have made the Braided Table Runner from the quilt as you go method. But unfortunately, I don’t remember seeing many of Gudrun’s patterns at my local quilt shops. Looks like I will have to do some internet pattern shopping if I don’t win.
My granddaughter has a quilt I made with a quilt as you go pattern. She’s 15 now but still takes it everywhere. It is quite disgusting with stains and all washed out, but she can’t live without it. I’ve made her a new quilt but it stays on her bed, all nice and pretty. The one everyone sees is an absolute disaster, she has literally loved it to pieces.
I haven’t made a quilt as you go yet but I think I have two in my que. One is Rose of Remembrance by Sharon Peterson.
I have heard a lot of nice things about this type of quilting so I would like to learn all about it.

The very first quilt I started (note I didn’t say finished!) was a hand pieced sampler that is a quilt as you go quilt. More recently, I did a guild challenge with fusible applique that I quilted as part of the applique process. That actually was finished!!! I do have Gudrun’s Peek a Boo table runner pattern that I am anxious to try.
I haven’t done quilt as you the way Gudrun does and am looking forward to trying some of her patterns.. Even if I don’t win I will be looking for them in my local quilt shop.
Gudrun has so many great patterns! I can’t wait to get my hands on these. I have not made a quilt using the quilt as you go method but I did make a notebook cover, hehe. It was a small project to try out the method. I’d love to try it on a quilt though. I just need a pattern now *wink wink*.
Thank you and GE Designs for a super giveaway and a chance to win.

Happy Ten Year Anniversary Gudrun! I have made a couple of quilt as you go table runners. I would love to win Gudrun’s newest book! So many great things in it!
Yes I have made mug rugs and placemats using the quilt as you go method. I want to try it for a larger project.
Yes and it was an absolute disaster! I didn’t really know what I was doing and combined several methods that I’d read quick tutorials for. Not a good idea on a twin sized quilt (I don’t start small!). I managed to make it work but just don’t look at the back of the quilt!
I have not tried the quilt as you go method but it is something that I would like to try someday.
I must have 10 sites bookmarked on my computer teaching quilt as you go. Gudrun’s is one of them! One of these days I WILL try it! Doing so on one of her patterns would be perfect. This has been a great blog hop. Thanks for the chance.
This has been fun seeing all the different blogs. I love all the patterns.
Hi from France! I have never used this method of “quilt as you go”. I’d like to learn especially when I sew large quilt.
Thanks for the chance if it’s open to international readers.
I have many quilt tops that are waiting patiently for the final step—to be quilted.
Therefore, the quilt-as you-go technique is becoming a better choice for me.
It works well for smaller projects, with the only final step – to add the binding.
I have used the quilt-as-you-go method with many of Gudrun’s designs, and have plans to do more.
I’ve never done a quilt as you go. I actually just discovered Gudrun during her 10th anniv blog hop!!! Can’t wait to try her patterns (already have 2 that are a MUST). Thanks for the giveaway!
I have made Sweet Trimmings for a Christmas gift. It was quick and easy plus fun to do. The prairie point detail in the corners add a lot to the design.
I have not yet made a quilt as you go, but really want to try Gudruns method. thanks for the chance to win a book or the patterns so I can give it a try!
I have tried Quilt-As-You-Go once, on the second quilt I ever made. I didn’t work, not at all, I ripped the quilt apart after a year of use and quilted it again the traditional way. Looking at all these awesome QAYG-projects I’m sure I just didn’t get the hang of the technique, and I was lacking quilting experience anyway. I think I’ll give it a try again.
No, I haven’t tried any of Gudrun’s pattern yet. I just orderred at couple of books and is curiouslu waiting by my mailbox to recieve them. Hugs Ullis in Sweden
I haven’t tried the Quilt-as-You-Go Method. I need to buy on of Gudrun’s patterns and get over the fear… :)
Many years ago, I made a “quilt as you go” block to block quilt. I wasn’t real happy with the method. I’m now ready to try quilting a row at a time and using a similar method with not as many joins. I think I’ve improved with my skills and there have been changes in the method, too.
I have not done a quilt as you go project yet. I took up piecing quilts rather late in life and I am still eager to learn any new tips and instructions. ( I am now 88 yrs. Young!!)
I will be purchasing some of these lovely patterns!!
Thanks, Wanda
The book looks amazing!
I once made a quilt as you go quilt but it was kind of clumsy.
I’d love to try a new method!
I have made quilt as you go placemats. They were fun to sew. I would like to try Gudrun’s method.
My first quilt was actually a king size ‘lap quilt’ where you quilt each block and THEN assemble it front and back. I havent’ done a quilt as you go as of yet. I did save the tree to do soon though and the book looks amazing!!
No I have never made a quilt as you go pattern before. But it sounds like fun :-)
I have done “quilt as you go” but not Gudrun’s method. I loved meeting Gudrun and dancing at Spring Market. So fun. Thanks.
I made a quilt as you go years ago on my serger but it didn’t seem to hold together very well. Recently I made a lap quilt out of strip using the QAYG method and it worked wonderfully.
Barb@Witsend
I have not made a quilt as you go project yet, but keep thinking I should, since I mostly end up with unquilted tops!
I did a “sort of” quilt and go. I had made a tee shirt quilt that was getting out of hand to ever quilt on a home machine. I framed the squares, layered them and quilted. I then connected with sashing following another book I have. It came out really well and would love to use the plan again. I would love to learn Gunrun’s method. Her patterns are so pretty.
I’ve made placemats and I also made Amy Butler’s Weekender Bag using the quilt as you go technique. As for actual quilts, no, I have made a quilt using this technique. I guess I’m a traditionalist when it comes to actual quilts.
I haven’t made a QAYG quilt but I recently made a throw pillow cover using random pieces and strips of fabric from recent sewing and craft projects. It’s a little low-volume (but not entirely) and I love it!
I, too, want to make the Diamond Charmer table topper. It is fun! Should stretch my binding skills!
Yes, I actually have used Gudruns patterns from her first book. I have made several table runners with this method! Happy Anniversary Gudrun. Mice visiting with you here at the Quilting Gallery!
I’m just learning about quilt as you go and am very excited to give it a try in the next couple months. Thanks for all the give aways and Happy Birthday GE Designs!
I have made 3 quilts this way, but they were all strips quilts. I am very interested in learning how to do these with smaller pieces. I think this is the first time I have heard of Gudrun. Happy Anniversary to her!
I don’t do much quilt as you go, as I have a long-arm machine. But, sometimes even I can’t get my things on there if I’m busy with customers quilts. So this is a great way for me to make a project & finish it. So sad huh? Kind of like the shoemaker whose children have no shoes…..
I have only made one quilt, quilting as I go. Actually it was a table runner but I enjoyed the technique.
So far, I have not done a quilt or other project with the quilt as you go method. After seeing the video with the projects from Gudrum’s new book, I would love to give her designs a try with this method.
My all time favorite is a quilt as you go from the first fast and furious book. The Beach Bag. I have made at least 5 of them using a half of a jelly roll. They make fantastic gifts!!
I have made one quilt as you go runner that was a fun project. I would like to try making a quilt with that method someday, too. Thanks for the fun giveaway of some great patterns!
Did a baby blanket in strips.
It was beautiful.
I hope I win.
No I haven’t tried the quilt-as-you-go method yet. Thanks for a chance to win! :)
I’ve only tried small quilt-as-you-go projects, such as pot holders and small table mats. It is something I would love to master!
I am working on a quilt as you go quilt now!!! Thanks for the chance to win!!!
Only one
Love making table runners and toppers. Sure hope I am a winner!
I have made things using quilt as you go. I would love to have this book!
I haven’t but have always wanted to try one.
