Today is my special day to help Gudrun Erla celebrate 10 years in the United States, the 10th anniversary of her quilt design company, GE Designs and the release of her newest book, Fast & Furious Home. Don’t miss the great give-aways below too.
I’ve been trying to remember when I first came across Gudrun’s work, and I can’t remember if I met her at Quilt Market one year or if it was this adorable Sweet Trimmings wall hanging tutorial.
Being last on this blog hop tour, meant I got to read all of the posts from the other bloggers and came across this great interview that our friends at the Fat Quarter Shop did with Gudrun at Spring Quilt Market:
Then I discovered that Gudrun used to be a physical education teacher, but what caught my attention and made me laugh was the Quiltmaker Shuffle that she organized:
Gudrun is famous for her quilt-as-you-go patterns. Let’s take a closer look at some of the projects in her new Fast & Furious Home book:
The first on my list to make once my book arrives will be the Diamond Charmer Table Topper. I love the unique shape and the design.

Many years ago I made one QAYG bed cover. Made applique blocks, then hand quilted each block before I sewed them together. Thanks so much for sharing and the opportunity!
I love Gudrun’s QAYG books and made several projects from table toppers to bags. I especially like the round table placemats. Thanks for the opportunity!!!!
I have done quilt as you go. it was from a Quilt Sampler magazine and the project travelled from BC to Newfoundland to Ottawa, with the hand sewing of the blocks. Next time, more will be done on the machine..lol
I haven’t tried quilt as you go yet, but I want to learn!
I have made a table topper and a minkee quilt that were QAYG. I love all of Gudrun’s designs. Thanks for the chance to win!
I haven’t made any QAYG quilts yet, but it’s something I want to learn. Thanks.
Yes I made a quilt as you go table runner, one of Gudrun’s first patterns to come out! Thanks for the chance to win!
I am in the middle of making a king size quilt as you go quilt. So far it is going quite well. I have not been able to do much quilting the past 3 1/2 years since I broke my upper left arm in 5 pieces near the elbow. I was able to do two table runners with much difficulty in that time so quilt as you go has been much easier.
I learned a QAG at a retreat a few years back. I do like the quicker result!
I haven’t tried quilt as you go, but I really love machine quilting. It’s so fun!
I love Gudrun’s patterns and think they could be made both ways.
I have my pieces cut out and ready to sew together for my first attempt at “quilt as you go”. Thanks for a great giveaway.
Yes, I have made several quilt-as-you-go projects. Fun! Thanks for doing this hop!
I have made a Log Cabin quilt as you go; blues and yellows that I gave to one of my sisters.
I tried my own version of a QAYG baby quilt when I had to quickly make a gift, but have never read any instructins as such.
I haven’t tried the quilt-as-you-go method yet, but I do want to give it a try. Happy #10 to Erla!
No, I never have – but I can think of lots of good reasons to give it a try, lol!
I have made a quilt using the qayg and it turned out great. I really like all of the projects you’ve shown, but the table runners are what catches my eye. Thanks for the chance to win.
I love QAYG…thanks for the chance .
I’m baaaack! I actually made one of her tablerunner patterns for Christmas gifts one year. So simple – and when you give something quilty to non-quilty people they have no idea how easy it was to do! Perfect-O!
I’ve never tried QAYG, but I should! I’m not in love with the process of machine quilting so maybe if I tried it much smaller chunks I’d like it more! Thank you for the chance to win. :)
I haven’t made any quilt as you go quilts but sure would give it a try..
No, I have never made any quilt with QAYG, but I want to do it sometime.
I’m so new to quilting still, that I am just trying FMQ now (am verrrry slow! lol)… Definitely want to try QAYG….looks easier too! :)
I love the brickhouse bed runner. I’ve never done the quilt as you go method but would love to try it sometime.
I have made some stockings with the quilt-as-you-go method, and they are super fun! It’s amazing how much quicker the process it, now I’m VERY excited about that Birthday Bash table runner you showed us! Thank you for the chance at the patterns, I’m also very interested in the Abundance pattern.

Yes I have. I made a gorgeous batik tablerunner – Gudrun’s pattern, in fact – and a quilt. The quilt is one of my very favourites that I’ve made. It’s reversible (from Sharon Pederson’s book) and both sides are really beautiful. It’s a great technique.
I think that Gudrun has some fabulous designs. Exciting and fresh. Keep up the great work!
I haven’t tried the quilt as you go method but it sounds like something I should learn as this way I might finish more than quilt tops and small wall hangings:) Thanks for participating and for the chance to win.
one that i have used on my bed but had a lot of trouble with it. thanks
I have started a QAG quilt and love how easy and quickly it comes together!! I would love to win a copy of Gudrun’s book her projects look great!
Do rag quilts count as quilt as you go? I am ready to make one of Gudrun’s quilts. Thanks for sharing.
Love the quilts!
I made a strip quilt years ago and last year I made two table toppers (a carrot and a watermelon) that were strips, QAYG and then cut into the correct shape), and one of Gudrun’s runners but since she started her 10 year celebration, I want to make others. Can’t wait for summer busyness to slow down a bit so I can get down to business!!!!! Thanks
About 18 years ago I made 2 Sunbonnet Sue quilts for my grandchildren and tried quilt as you go. I didn’t like the look of it as you could see where the batting ended. Now a days I think it is done differently and would love to learn how to do it. Thanks for the opportunity to win.
I have not yet made any quilts or other items using this method but am interested in learning about it. Maybe I could make inroads into my stash if I used this method, then again maybe not!
I used the quilt as you go to make a Dr Suess Quilt for my granddaughter, next project will be a purse!
I have not made any quilts using the quilt as you go method, but I need to do so. This make s it look so easy.
What a great giveaway! fingers crossed
I have not made any quilts using the quilt-as-you-go method, but I would love to give it a try! Thanks for the giveaway!
I am dying to try a quilt-as-you-go quilt! I hope I win!
Thanks for the wonderful journey this past few days!!! Have enjoyed all the inspiration from everyone:-)) May you be blessed with many more years. Beautiful work.
I haven’t tried to quilt as you go. This book would sure help me get started! Thanks for the chance.
Nope, never quilted as I go. Time to learn!
I liked the designs featured in the new book, so that is where I will start learning to do quilt as you go, seems like I am always doing a quilt on the go, as I am so far behind. Love those new designs, send them my way. Kathy
No, I haven’t made any QAYG quilts yet, but it is on my must do list! Thanks for the chance to win!
I have never tried to do a QAYG but after looking at these patterns it will be something I must try!
Thanks for the chance to win.
I have not made any quilts using the quilt-as-you-go. But between owning one of Gudrun’s books and watching a Sewing with Nancy, I’m ready to give it a try.
So far I have not, although it is a quilting method I want to try for smaller (then bed size) projects.
No, I’ve never used that method. Sounds time-saving!
I’ve made one of Gudrun’s table runner patterns, which was a QAYG. I didn’t realize it was hers until this hop, though. Great design! Thanks.
