How did you get into quilting?
It started in 2010 with a first baby quilt for my friend’s baby girl. Since then I cannot stop. In May 2010 I started my own blog – ShapeMoth, joined Flickr and the world of modern quilters and swaps.
I love to sew modern quilts, pillows, bags, purses and home decor accessories. I use various techniques to create unique look of the things I make – traditional piecing, paper piecing, hand embroidery, fabric painting, thread painting and free motion quilting. But I’m not only a modern quilter.
Seeking for challenges, I’ve made my first art quilt: ‘Among the red flowers’ in 2011, which won the #3 prize in ‘Pictorial quilts’ category on of Quilts in Birmingham/UK 2012 and #3 prize in ‘Viewer’s choice’ contest during Main Quilt Festival in Aschaffenburg 2012.
How/when/why did you transition from a quilter to a designer?
I always tried to create something new (I’ve never made any quilt based on somebody else’s pattern), but I’d say I become a designer with my first PP pattern. Since then I’ve designed several PP block patterns and got published in quilting book and magazines with my quilt patterns (and there are further publications coming).
Which quilt is your favourite? Did you design it? Why is it your favourite?
My favourite quilt is my first art quilt ‘Among the red flowers’. I’ve made it last year for Main Quilt Festival in Aschaffenburg. It’s a mix of applique, thread painting, textile painting and drawing. It’s based on a digital painting of Gracjana Zielinska.
How many UFOs do you currently have? Several. 3 quilt tops are waiting to be finished and lots of small items (coin purses, cosmetic bags, pillows, etc)
What size of quilt do you prefer to make/design? Lap quilts, pillows and mini quilts.
What colour do you use most often in your quilts? Black/white, beige, aqua/teal and gray. I tend not to use brights to often.
Favourite one-sentence tip for a new quilter: Measure twice before you cut…
Favourite size and brand of rotary cutter: Clover 45mm
Favourite quote or mantra: Keep calm and rip on ;) (I hate ripping the seams and I rarely do it; if I have to, very often the project end as UFO)
