Quilts for Mom

When my mom decided she wanted a picture quilt for a family reunion, she learned how to scan, re-size and print photos on fabric. She gave them along with fabric to me. My husband cut the fabric, the kids helped with fabric selection and placement. I just stitched it all together.

Made this quilt for my mom for last years’ Mother’s Day gift. I’ve used a needle-turn applique technique and the pattern was purchased from Fat Cat Patterns named Baltimore Blues by Sindy Rodenmeyer.

In April my Sister-In-Law passed away tragically at 20 years old. As I’m sure you can imagine this was extremely hard on our family. But, out of everyone it has been the most difficult for my Mother-In-Law. I made her this memory quilt, in hopes to help her with the grieving process and cheer her up

The blocks were gifts from online friends for my birthday a few years back. I asked for blue and white like Delft china. I decided to give it to my Mother-In-Law (who was born in Holland) for 90th birthday. I designed the setting and machine quilted it on a friends longarm.

This quilt was made for my wife’s Grandmother who is 88 to celebrate with her her newest Great Grand Child Julia who was born a month ago. It has 20 Granny Square blocks 2 each of 10 color groups and has been quilted in a spiral shape its name is Granny’s Gone Wild.

this quilt consists of alternating 9-patches of various pinks and applique hearts. I made this in honor of my mom and best friend who faught breast cancer. It was sold in 2009 and proceeds donated to Relay for Life in hopes of find a cure so no other woman has to suffer this disease.

I put several memories to my mother Suze and grandmothers Aaltje and Margje in this quilt, like my mother’s wedding gloves with a piece of veil (she married my father this month 60 years ago!).

This quilt was made in memory of my Mom, when I was a child she had a Japanese doll on her dresser. The border & dress fabric was challenge fabric. Given to me Oct 2005 top to be finished by Apr 2006. My mom’s cancer worsen during this time and she died. After caring for her. Designed & made by me.

My mum always made things for me growing up, I wanted to return the favor. My mum is going through a rough time in her life so I wanted it to be cheerful and bright. Besides she is always cold, so I wanted it to be warm hence the flannel backing. Based on design by Elizabeth Hartman.

This Dresden Plate Christmas Quilt was made for my mom for Christmas. She loves the color red so why not do a Christmas quilt.

This, my 1st art quilt, was finished while mom was in the hospital dying of cancer. It commemorates the beautiful memories and all the hundreds of people that came to visit her while I was there working on it. So much emotion from those last precious weeks went in to this piece.

Mrs.Star symbolizes being myself even when that is different than those around me. She is my Mother’s Day present to myself. The black fabric has tiny white dots, and all other fabrics are Annie’s Farm Stand. She was sewn by me and then quilted by me on my vintage 1896 Singer 31-15 machine.

My sister and I quilt “together” 800 miles apart. This quilt was planned for Mom – we plotted, shopped & prepped, then during a visit we stayed up nearly all night and assembled, surprising her in the morning. By visit end it was all done. Mom had cancer but she kept this with her to the very end

Designed this after Eleanor Burnd challenged me to make a bed-sized quilt from the Americana Star block we learned in Block Party in 2009, Qult Blocks on American Barns. the quilt got in the book, on her TV show and in quilt magazine.

I made this for my mother using a print from Vusova on etsy.
It reminds me of the many Mondays I spent with her drinking tea and talking about everything going on in our lives. It is machine appliqued and hand quilted. The faces are hand painted.

In 2006 my husband’s grandmother died. In tribute I made 7 of these quilts, 1 for each of her children and 1 for me to keep. The pictures are her and her husband in 1946, her and her 6 children, everyone at the memorial service and a poem written by her son-in-law. She is greatly missed!
