Aurifil Threads are Irresistible.
Aurifil makes 4 weights of its 100% cotton Mako threads: 12wt, 28wt, 40wt and 50wt. The larger the number, the smaller the thread. I use the 50wt thread for all of my piecing. I love how thin it is and that it doesn’t add any bulk to my seams when pressed.
Pat’s done a great video on the different thread weights and how to recognize the spool colours:
I love how Aurifil threads have a tiny bit of shine to them and shimmer ever-so-slightly when the light hits them. Hopefully you can see the shimmering effect in this photo:
I love the subtle gradients in many of their threads. I have two nieces and these purple and pink gradient threads get used often.
I love that when I use the 50wt thread for hand appliqué, the stitches vanish right into the fabric.
I love that I can get gorgeous machine blanket stitch, accurate stitch-in-the-ditch and beautiful dense quilting with Aurifil threads. I’ve been using Aurifil threads for two years and not once has my thread broken.
For me, Aurifil threads are irresistible. They make my quilting life more enjoyable and beautiful.
Here’s my block: Hidden Star. Made up of simple half-square triangles and four patches. Don’t let the on-point layout scare you, it’s super easy to put together.
Download the block instructions here: Hidden-Star-Quilting-Gallery
Leave a comment below telling me what’s your favourite season and why? For me, it’s Spring, when the birds return and the flowers and trees awaken from their cold Winter’s nap.
Two winners will be selected to win a thread sampler pack containing one spool of each of the different weights of Irresistible Aurifil Threads. Winners will be selected on Saturday.
Today (Thursday) is the last day to enter your quilt in this week’s contest Colourful Modern Quilts. Check back on Friday for your chance to vote for your favourite.
Love your block! I’ve never experienced using Aurifil thread. Anxious to try it after all the wonderful things I’ve heard on this blog. My favorite season is spring. I love the flowers in bloom, bright blue skies, birds chirping, nice green grass and lush colorful trees. Also, can’t forget all the wonderful smells. Thanks for having this giveaway.
I love spring, I feel must better in spring, don’t like winter at all.
great block! thank you!
I love your block!!
My favorite time of the year is spring too. I need the return of more light and fresh new colors.
Spring is my favorite. I love it when everything starts blooming, and we leave winter behind. Thanks for the block and the giveaway!
My favorite season is probably summer at the lake, only because of the relaxed attitude everyone has…..we wake up late or very early, nature is alive, love the sounds of the lake waves splashing onto shore, napping on the dock or the boat (or maybe squeezing in a little hand sewing), and late night dinners.
I could certainly use some of the Aurifil thread out on the boat this next summer, when I’m doing my hand applique! Thanks for the chance to participate!

Such a pretty block! And wow, I didn’t realize Aurifil had so many colors. Thanks for the blog hop!
Spring is my favorite season because I don’t have allergies so I can enjoy all the blooming flowers! I love aurifil and have used it exclusively for piecing and machine quilting.. the video was very informative for other uses!

I love your block, Spring is my fav season IRL but I *love* autumnal colours and get more quilting done as the nights draw in.
Though I do love spring with all her flowers, autumn is my favorite time of year. The coolness of the weather after a hot summer, then decorating for Halloween, and oh ya, my birthday! Maybe that is why I love autumn!
Thank you for the opportunity to win!
I love Autumn (Fall) when all the leaves are changing colour!
I look forward to the fall, I live in TX so most of the year is hot and humid! I am also looking forward to trying Aurifil it would be great to win some! Thank you.
Spring is my favorite season. Love it when all the flowers and trees start blooming. I’ve been using Aurifil thread for several years, and it’s great.
I live in Santa Barbara, California so we don’t really get typical seasons so it’s tough to choose one. Our seasons are sunshine, fog, sunshine, rain, sunshine, sunshine. So I choose sunshine which is all four seasons :)
Springtime is my favorite. Here in N FL we definitly have a springtime, where the mornings are cool, but the days are delightfully warm and all of the flowersand trees begin to bud.
I would love to win some aurifil thread.\
Thanks for the giveaway
I love Spring! I live in PA and I can’t wait for Spring to arrive! Good bye snow! I love Aurifil thread and would like to win some. Your block is great. Thanks for being part of this hop.
Spring is my favorite when the flowers start to come up and it is time to work outside. Love your block, thanks!
Spring is my all-time favorite season .. all the trees and flowering plants are beginning to bloom and the world just seems so fresh and full of possibilities. Fall is a close second and the one that I chose to get married during.
I haven’t tried Aurifil yet but I’m off to the quilt shop to get a spool and try it out.
I love fall the best as we get a break from the heat. I love the fall colors, the oranges, reds and yellows. Thanks for the video on the different weights of the aurifil thread. I have used it for hand applique and was wondering what the other weights were for. Very helpful.
My favorite season is fall. It is a time of getting back to our schedules and a time of beautiful colors. I am hoping I will win some of this wonderful aurifil thread.
I do love all the seasons for different reasons… but after a looooong winter (around here it lasts for about 6 months) I am ready for spring, ready to shed the extra clothes, ready to skip out of the house into the sunshine and warm air. Thanks for this awesome giveaway!!
Wow I love that sampler card of thread. For me Fall is the best. Its cool but not cold and you have the perfect excuse for apple cider.
Spring is my favorite and it means that winter is over.
My favorite season is Fall. I love everything about the fall and for me it is opening season for all my favorite holidays. I’m already quilting for Christmas!
Summer — I like warm temperatures. Thanks for hosting the stop I is for Irresitible Aurifil. I’m willing to win!
My favorite season is Fall. Please enter me in the drawing!
Spring and summer are a tie for me. New blooms, brightness in the colors, lazy days etc.
Thanks for the block and being part of the blog hop.
I live in Texas so I’m always grateful for the fall…cooler weather and not much humidity.
I have two seasons that I like. Spring – Everything is waking from its long winter nap. Peeking up from Mother Earth. New things are great. Fall- Everything is getting ready for its long winter nap. Love the autumn colors and the crunch of the leaves under foot. Putting on a sweater is like meeting up with old friends. I like how you have made the star in your block…looks like it could be hard but isn’t.
I love Winter! Love having fires, wonderful steaming hot soups, and I love how quiet everything gets when it snows. I love the sense that the earth lies dormant and is just waiting to spring to life again!
I love Spring and Fall. The only negative about spring is my allergies.Your block is beautiful.Love Aurifil thread.
Yes I live in Texas also and always ready for the fall weather. We had a lovely Fall in 2010 and I hope our Spring will be nice too.
My favorite seasons? Spring and Fall. Love your block and would love to try the Aurifil threads.
My favorite season is spring. Good bye to the cold. Hello to some warmth.
Summer is my favorite, but Spring is close behind. Love warm weather and a garden with tomatoes growing (well, ripening!). Thank you for jumping in on the hop and for your block.
My favorite season is spring as well, because we are coming out of the dark slump of winter, and everything is fresh and new.
I LOVE SPRING THE BEST OF ALL,BUT I LOVE YOUR BLOCK EVEN MORE!
SPRING!!! Tiny buds on the plants, hints of green, wildflowers beside the roadways, newborn critters…what’s not to like? A return of the sun after a long, dreary winter. Painted toe nails! (after a long ‘hide’ under socks)
my favorite season is early summer when most of the flowers are blooming and I can shed all the bulky clothes
My favorite season is Fall, especially here in Florida. The respite from the heat is intoxicating and we can finally open the windows!!
What a great block! So simple yet so effective.
As for my favourite season… I’ve always liked Autumn. I don’t like the heat and Autumn is that bit cooler, without the shivering cold of winter. Plus I’ve always been fascinated by deciduous trees because we didn’t have any at our house when I was growing up.
*high five* Auritfil is my home boy…well thread. ANY WAY I just love it to pieces and will never go back to ‘other’ threads again!
I can never get enough Aurifil thread – would love to win more.
I like the fall when the leaves start to change colors and I can start wearing sweatshirts and sweaters.
Aurifil is my favorite thread and the only one that I will use!!!!!
