Aurifil Threads are Irresistible.
Aurifil makes 4 weights of its 100% cotton Mako threads: 12wt, 28wt, 40wt and 50wt. The larger the number, the smaller the thread. I use the 50wt thread for all of my piecing. I love how thin it is and that it doesn’t add any bulk to my seams when pressed.
Pat’s done a great video on the different thread weights and how to recognize the spool colours:
I love how Aurifil threads have a tiny bit of shine to them and shimmer ever-so-slightly when the light hits them. Hopefully you can see the shimmering effect in this photo:
I love the subtle gradients in many of their threads. I have two nieces and these purple and pink gradient threads get used often.
I love that when I use the 50wt thread for hand appliqué, the stitches vanish right into the fabric.
I love that I can get gorgeous machine blanket stitch, accurate stitch-in-the-ditch and beautiful dense quilting with Aurifil threads. I’ve been using Aurifil threads for two years and not once has my thread broken.
For me, Aurifil threads are irresistible. They make my quilting life more enjoyable and beautiful.
Here’s my block: Hidden Star. Made up of simple half-square triangles and four patches. Don’t let the on-point layout scare you, it’s super easy to put together.
Download the block instructions here: Hidden-Star-Quilting-Gallery
Leave a comment below telling me what’s your favourite season and why? For me, it’s Spring, when the birds return and the flowers and trees awaken from their cold Winter’s nap.
Two winners will be selected to win a thread sampler pack containing one spool of each of the different weights of Irresistible Aurifil Threads. Winners will be selected on Saturday.
Today (Thursday) is the last day to enter your quilt in this week’s contest Colourful Modern Quilts. Check back on Friday for your chance to vote for your favourite.
I love spring………putting the garden in, seeing baby animals, knowing that fresh food is coming……love fresh food from the garden, camping, hiking, seeing neighbors. It just has such a feeling of renewal. Would love to try these threads…….what better way than on your cute block……..daffidils are blooming in my front yard………just like a promise of what is to come……..thanks
My favorite season is definitely Spring. I love the warmer air after the long Midwest winters and look forward so much each year to my Lilacs blooming. I just love the Lilac scent. It’s my favorite of all and when the windows are opened each Spring the Lilac smell fills my entire house.
Thank you for the great block pattern. It’s very nice.
I love springtime too! The smell of new growth, the sound of new life. Spring always recharges my internal battery! Love the block and the giveaway!
Hey Michelle, I love your block!!! Well, my favorite season is certainly NOT winter!! I am so tired of the cold and snowy weather. I do love spring when there is newness in the air. I also like the colors and temps of early fall too. Summer aint so bad either but winter….
My favorite is the end of spring and beginning of summer. It’s a little warmer, and the trees are providing full shade. I love hearing the bells from ice cream carts and seeing kids play ball in the park and seeing the fruit stands in the back of pickup trucks. Just thinking about it makes me feel warm and my heart thaws from wintery-ness just a little bit.
I’m looking forward to seeing the result this wonderful Aurifil thread has on my quarter-inch seams.
Hugs,
Gerry
Thank you for the great video. I am going to the Sewing and Quilting Expo in Cleveland, Ohio in March and I will be sure to look for Aurifil so I can stock up. I like all the seasons, but spring is probably my favorite.
I love spring because in the North of Norway the winter is so long, cold and dark with a lot og snow. After two months not seeing the sun I start looking forward to spring with bright sunshine, birds singing, and soon the midnight sun will brighten our nights.
I found the hidden star – Now if I can only win some thread my day will be made :)
Cute block! I really like you birdie quilt – love those fat birds! Aurifil is the best for piecing! Thanks for sharing!
I love the summer-sunny-warm-roses and hubby and my bithdays!
I love your Hidden Star block! Lovely!
Summer is my fav…though spring is a close second! I love being able to be outdoors as much as possible.
Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos of your work!
Thanks for the free block pattern and the giveaway. My favourite season is summer for the warm sunshine, I hate being cold. I also quite like the spring when at last I can get outside into the garden. Linda
I love all the seasons, but I think my fav at the moment might be fall. Perhaps because I miss it the most living in Atlanta – the New England leaf colors are so vivid and crisp, and that cold snap in the air! Since we had 5″ of snow and ice, I got my winter fix for the year, and certainly wouldn’t want the winter the north has had this year…and spring and summer will be here so soon! Thank you for the lovely block and giveaway!
Spring is my favorite season especially this year after the terrible winter we have had. I can’t wait to see the crocuses and daffodils! Love your block and can’t wait to try it and Aurifil thread.
I too love Aurifil threads, there is all the difference in the world in my blocks when I piece with them. I also love how they just disappear when I applique with them.
I love all seasons except winter. I don’t like to shovel snow and if I would never see another snowflake I would be ecstatic! The only nice thing about winter is that I don’t have to make up an excuse to stay inside and sew!!!!!
I do love spring but I believe that Fall is my favorite time of year. The oranges and yellows are just yummy. I love aurifil thread, especially the varigated ones.
At this moment in time, Spring is my favorite season because it represents hope and possibilities. But having said that, I find that the colors of Fall are my favorites.
Love your block! And Aurifil thread–the best!
Fall is my favorite season. We can escape the terrible hot weather of summer, but still have gorgeous days. The colors are beautiful, and, that’s when my birthday is! Coinsidence??
Spring is my favorite!!! The Aurfil varigated is my favorite especiailly the “Varigated Sunset” !!
Thank you for reposting Pat Sloan’s video telling about the differences in the weights and what she likes best for which projects! I had seen this a while back – but always so nice to watch again.
Can not wait to try out this thread everyone keeps raving about! Love from Texas! ~bonnie
I love spring with all the new things growing in my garden – seeing changes daily. However, I also really enjoy the snow and the cold (has nothing to do w/ my mold allergies or my curly hair that frizzes in the more moderate temps!).
I love the Hidden Star block…thanks for the fun blog hop!! I love SUMMER!! Lots of walks on the beach…
Love your site!!! Wow! GREAT quilts!! You are soooo talented!
Thanks for sharing your free block, and for chance to win Aurifil thread! Never used before…tho admit I am a Newbie at quilting.
Hugs! :)
Forgot to tell you my favorite Season!! Duh!
It has to be SPRING!!! After the cold, snowy, gray days of Winter………Spring brings us sunny days, warmer temps, and everything is waking up & beginning to bloom! YAY!!
& thanks for chance to win Aurifil thread! :)
I am so inspired by all the blocks and reviews of Aurifil thread, I can’t wait to try it! Thanks for a great hop.

I guess I would have to say spring is my favorite. The flowers start to pop up and the days are crisp and clear.
I love aurifil thread, I’ve only used on color but am looking forward to trying the different weights.
I like your block too! My favorite season is Summer, no excuses to not see my Grandchildren whenever I can travel. This year I’m so sick of SNOW! I’d love to win some Thread to go on my road trips.
It’s gotta be Spring … I can’t wait for that time change!
Thanks for the opportunity!
Oddly enough I like Winter the best – at least in west Texas. I didn’t like it all when I was growing up in Nebraska. I love to quilt when it’s cold outside and cloudy and particularly raining like it will never stop. I, like you, use Auriful for piecing and long arming – it never lets me down!
Oh Michele I LOVE your block. Now I have tried just about everything I can to make half square triangles (even with Thangles I have not succeeded). Anyway your way looks super duper easy and I’m going to have a go tonight with it. Thank you so much for your great instructions. Okay now for my favorite season – it is SPRING. I just love spring and watching everything come to life again it’s just the best ever and also my body really likes it too. Thank you so much once again.
Love

The season I like best is Fall. I love to watch the trees change colors and love the red and orange leaves!
thanks for the chance to win. SUmmer is my favorite.
Summer is my favorite season. I live close to the beach, and enjoy walking on the sand. I LOVE the block you have for the Blog Hop.
I love Aurifil…would love to try some colors…I always use neutral for my piecing!
My favorite season is spring…everything just perfect temperatures and beautiful green…and flowers blooming!
I love Summer! There’s so much to do and the days are longer and lazy. At least mentally, maybe not in reality!
Fall is my favorite season. I love when the leaves change colors and there’s relief from the hot summer.
My favorite season would have to be fall. I love the cooler weather, after a hot, humid summer. I love the fall colors, and driving out to the farmstands. I love the way the air smells, and the way it feels.
This block is so pretty. I love the star within the block, and can’t wait to try it. I don’t know if anyone else has reported it, but I am having trouble printing out your PDF file. I’ll wait away and try it again.
Really adore your block ! THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!
I LOVE Aurifil threads! I am constantly drooling over my color card. Thank you for the block and chance to win.
My favorite season is summer! I’m a teacher – time crunched and pressured during the school year. Summer is relaxed!!
Spring is definitely my favorite season! Anticipation of warmer weather, new blossoms everywhere, planting my garden, on and on! What could be better? Except sewing with some new wonderful thread! Pick me! Pick me!!!
My favorite time of year is Spring because I cannot wait to get out and start planting!
I have been enjoying all the blocks. My favorite season is spring, with the new births its great to see all the new things.
I’ve always said fall for the colors and pumpkins. But as I get older, Spring is becoming my favorite because it means the end of winter. The flower and birds are just irresistible right now!
I can never decide if I like Spring or Fall the best. In Spring I like Spring the best, and in the Fall I like Fall the best!!!!!! Spring has the beautiful flowers, but Fall has the beautiful cozy colors!!!!!
My Favorite Season is always the one approaching… I’m always anxious to “jump to the next” season with the promises that each season holds. After a lonG winter, Spring can’t get here fast enough. Spring is the funny one, it’s never long enough to become tiring (unless it happens to hold a real bad string of bad weather). Often Summer arrives in full bloom and I’m wondering what happened to Spring (certainly the Spring flowers spent wayyy too fast). But by the end of the Summer’s friends, fireworks and fun, I’m looking forward to Trick-or-Treaters then the pumpkin pies then the candy canes and cute mittens….. and of course I love winter for the hours of sewing time it allows…. but then those darn seed catalogues arrive and I am thinking of spring and planting the garden…. those real flowers tease what fun they’d be as an applique project. I wish my garden could grow Aurifil thread, wouldn’t THAT be a good garden to grow!?!!
