Archipelago Archipelago

This is my second quilt, made for my parents wedding anniversary. The marine theme came from my parents love of sailing and my own love of the archipelagos of the Swedish coastline. The lighthouse block is to symbolize security, hope and love. The quilt is hand quilted, with waves in the border.

This quilt was made from a Birthday Block Swap. I chose to have NYB blocks (hence the name) as they are one of my favorite blocks.

A gift for my sister Maggie-who loves the beach and has visited every light house in NJ.

I converted the pattern to paper piecing. The appliques were done by hand as is the quilting. The border was pieced using adding machine tape, stay-stitched then sewn on by machine to prevent stretching.

Playa Caribeña means Caribbean beach in Spanish. My husband loves the beach so I wanted to make a wall hanging quilt of a beach scene for him to hang in his office at work. It brightens up his office and he loves looking at it!

Siren's Song Siren’s Song

This piece was created as part of a guild challenge. We were each given a fat quarter of Laurel Burch fabric (all colourful fish) to work with.

The Mermaid’s body is made from those fish. This quilt is mostly top stitched curved piecing along with a few “fused” fish, and some beading (the seahorse)

I had a few sailboat and fish muslin pre-printed blocks given me – I remember when a kid we would go to watch the boats race in the summer – and chase the little fish along the shore. I did up the boats and fish, added a lighthouse, and used a sand/shell print fabric for the beach-hand quilted.

The ocean is a favorite place, so colors and theme were easy. I read a blog about ‘dancing log cabin’ blocks, then modified the idea to what I called a ‘two step’ block. New embroidery machine pattern of lovely shells.

Will go to sis in law when done. DD did the photo with detail insets.

A combination of ideas, the sea horses were from one workshop, the fish, which are 3D and all have smiles on their faces from another workshop. A happy quilt that hangs in my bathroom.

I have always wanted to make a scenery quilt, this is the first one I’ve made.

I used wonder under, cut, then ironed them on, I also used paper glue. I machine quilted on my Phaff Machine. Glued the pearls to look like air bubbles.

At the top it looks like an Island .

I was given a packet of batik fat quarters which when I looked at them and laid them against a light blue background, I thought of creating fish swimming in water. I purchased other fabric to make more fish, thus this quilt was born!

    OMG! how do we pick just one?! what a great selection of quilts this week. It’s obviously a subject that brings out great inspiration. All you quilters are just fantastic!

    Wonderful quilts!! I agree with Dar. This week it took me 2 days to decide which one to vote for. They are all beautiful.
