This lone star was made to be hanged in our bedroom and colors were chosen from the curtains we already had. The meaning of the title is never to go to sleep without being in peace with one another. I can tell you: it works already for many years!

This was an anniversary gift for my son & daughter-in-law. I made it at the same time I was reading Patrick O’Brian’s historical novels, hence the name, even though it isn’t a mariner’s star! Machine & hand-pieced cotton with an old blanket for the inside lining, hand quilted in yellow thread.

My recreation/reproduction of a circa 1890 antique in my collection. I carefully tried to recreate all the quirky elements from the original quilt including the border on only 2 sides and the very wonky stars. Paperpieced, hand and machine appliqued and hand quilted.

The Star was paper pieced using scraps. The small center was sewn by hand and then machine stitching was used for the rest. I used clear threat for quilting so I wouldn’t detract from the mistletoe fabric. It is reversible using an Autumn theme on the back.

I made this quilt to remind myself that space (the background of stars) and earth (the flowers and the dove) are one. The dove (a symbol of peace) is a reminder that to survive we must all live in peace. Hand quilted, hand appliqued. The flowers are dimensional and beaded.

I stated this log cabin as a leader/ender project. When it came time to lay it out, I decided to try a star layout. It was so large I could only layout 1/4 of it at a time. This was the first time I attempted to machine quilt Baptist Fans. They came out wonky, but my manager loves it anyway.

Accented marbled fabrics in a traditional nonpareil pattern, based on a block by Judy Martin. I made this quilt at least ten years ago, and because of participating in the FMQ challenge, I took it apart and quilted it to accent the stars. Lots of various sizes of stippling, plus a hint of trapunto.

This quilt was the finish of a BOM at a LQS in 2009. The design and pattern was by Susan Baker, a local quilting teacher. The fabrics are all 1800s reproductions. It was quilted by David Herbert on his longarm. We are enjoying this quilt on the wall of our bedroom.

This wall hanging was made for the Kids for Cancer Golf Tournament to raise money and then was given to a young boy going through treatments. This quilt was designed to inspire the imagination of what is beyond the stars. The side panels and back are made from the starry night fabric.

I took a class at NC Symposium on photographing flowers and printing them on fabric. I took all the flower photos in the stars and border. The star itself is from American Quilter Magazine in 2007. It is machine pieced, appliqued and quilted.

I love the contrast of the gold stars on the black fabric. I was able to play with the some new quilting designs as they showed up so well on the solid black fabric. The pattern is called Stars for Audrey but I made this quilt for my son so named the quilt Stars for Andrew.

The ‘Stars on Stripes’ quilt is a simple design using a fairly bold floral print in combination with a more muted striped print. I made this quilt in 2009 and it remains one of my favourites. I was lucky enough to have it featured in Creating Country Threads Vol 10, No 10 in 2010.

This quilt was made during my first quiltalong with Freshly Pieced. I quilted it on my domestic machine by echo stitching around the supernova blocks and quilting additional stars on it — in RED thread! It was completed on time with the quiltalong.

First design surface quilt I made using stamps and decolourant. When deciding how to quilt it, it occurred to me that big or small, we all shine one way or another, we each have talents… So, I quilted it with metallic thread, and turned some of the dots into small suns, which still shined…
