Quilts for the Little Ones

This quilt, together with many other, will be given to small kids that have lost their home and their loved ones in the earthquake that destroyed some cities in Italy in may 2012. We chose blue scrappy pinwheels that made us smile hoping they will do the same for a small boy.

I modeled the doll in this quilt after my granddaughter, Addison, she of the curly hair, the passion for pink, and the collection of flipflops! (The doll is adapted from a pattern by Kay Mackenzie.) I sent the quilt to a little girl whose Mom was in the hospital

The train was appliqued on and then hand sewn button hole stitch. Additional features hand sewn. This was a gift for a friend on the arrival of her son.

This was made for a friend who had seen a similar one at Pottery Barn but wanted her own nursery colors for the little girl, Charlotte Grace Addison Rush, she was expecting. I took the picture of the PB one and used it for inspiration for this one! It was an all applique quilt.

I made this quilt for my youngest daughter.When I was expecting her, the baby shower was cherry/berry themed. She had lots of clothes with cherries on them and so I wanted to make her a quilt to remember this sweetness about her babyhood. It was quilted by Cindy Alford, pattern by M’liss Rae Hawley.

I made this quilt for our second grandchild. The sex of the baby was unknown until birth. I love vintage fabrics and was pleased with the outcome. Jacob Devin was born June 4, 2009

From the cottage chic colors to the soft stippled quilting, this beautiful baby quilt whispers “sweet baby girl”. Because the quilt features a bunny motif, I’ve named it Cottontails. The brown and cream plaid binding has been lovingly hand-stitched to the back of the quilt.

This quilt was made for my Nephew whose room was decorated with ducks. The pattern is from Fast Patch by Anita Hallock. I machine embroidered the ducks and incorporated them in the quilt. The quilt was quilted by Bill and Mary Zawlocki in a duck pattern.

At the age of 33 I recently got another cousin, a darling little girl that was more than 5 weeks early. That kind of brought up the pressure because by that time I hadn’t even started the quilt. At least her parents chose an appliqué friendly name: Emma :o)

This quilt was made for a little girl that is infatuated with frogs and anything green. I used a panel “G is for Green” and added pink fabric with frog fairy print on it.
The girl received the quilt on her birthday and was very excited to have a “Frog Quilt”. It is her bed quilt now.

My son asked for a quilt with different methods of transportation for his little boy. This is what I came up with. Some of the appliques I designed and some I adapted from existing patterns. The appliques are hand guided machine applique. It was a fun quilt to make. My grandson loves it!

Sunbonnet Sue on the beach at Waikiki, strolling along in the sunshine, barefoot, in her beautiful muumuu. These Sues were made by Norma Downing of Richland, WA, who markets them on Ebay under the handle, Norrich. Her work intrigued me, so I bought this set of 12 and they inspired the quilt.

I made this quilt for my friend Marta baby girl. It is done with fabric scraps in white, off white and light pink. It has machine embroidery and applique and some animals quilted on the outer edge.
It was very appreciated.

I made this quilt for my great nephew when he was born. I used scraps for the puppy’s ears, feet and tail. The block colors were just some I found in my stash and they seem to just go together for a little boy.

This is a quilt I made for my nephews’ new daughter. It is my own original design. Machine pieces and quilted.

This quilt I made for my first born grandson Bailey who was 10 years old at the time. He loves it!

Heads of different Monsters were appliqued on a plain block with pieced blocks alternating. Borders around and the backing was a lovely fluffy fabric for cuddling.

This quilt is my original design. All applique is done by machine. The lion’s mane is made of a fuzzy fabric and is satin stitched. The other applique has turned edges for durability in washing. The recipients of this gift had a jungle themed nursery decorated in pink and brown.

Maile was born in the “Year of the Golden Pig”‘ the most auspicious year in the zodiac. This quilt has the Japanese alphabet and the 12 animals of the oriental zodiac. The years are quilted into each block and the reverse side has tenugui of each animal. Hand pieced and appliqued and hand quilted.

Fell in love with this fairy panel, bought it, and waited to hear about a new baby girl. It was a short while before I got invited to a baby shower for Mia Noelle. If I could send two photos, she’d be lying on it!

My quilt guild gives quilts to children in need. Members make quilts and donate them. Some of the colorful inner fabric was given to me. Other colorful fabrics is from my stash. Used coordinating plain fabrics from my stash to complete the blocks. Fun and quick quilt to make.

Mini quilt for a birthday gift for a one year old. We call her Petradactyl, because her name is Petra and my husband thinks she sounds like a pteradactyl when she yells. (You know, because we all know firsthand what a pteradactyl sounds like.)

I was asked to make a quilt as a baby shower gift for a little boy. Color and pattern was left to me, but it had to include the boy’s name. I did not know when I made it that the theme of the baby shower would be all things ocean and boats.

A special quilt that I made in less than a week for a baby boy that had a dire outlook at birth with an unexpected fatal condition. His mother loved to take it home with her when she left him in the NICU so she could smell him. He passed away a few weeks later, the a keepsake memory for his family
