Vote Now: Summertime Fun Quilts

It’s voting time for this week’s Summertime Fun quilt contest. Grab yourself a cup of coffee and a pencil to make note of your faves. You can vote for THREE favourites this weekend.

Ebony Love has donated a 6-month membership to her Blocks to Die For Magazine for this week’s winner. Plus everyone has a chance to win the June 2012 edition by leaving a comment here.

Now it’s time for you to vote for your favourites!

  • Voting is open Friday – Monday, July 2nd at 8 a.m. (EDT)
  • One vote per person (based on IP address NOT email address), so have your family and friends cast a ballot for their favourite quilt (from home if you send it to coworkers)
  • Winner announced Monday afternoon/evening

How to Vote:

  • Review the photos and stories below… there are several, so you’ll need to scroll down to see them all. You can also click the link to the slider version to review the quilts in the large format and then return to this page to vote.
  • Underneath the photos, scroll down, you’ll see the names of all the quilts with a square button** beside each one. Select the buttons for the quilts you want to vote for. You can select up to THREE quilts this week.
  • Then scroll down, all the way, until you get to the bottom of the names of the quilts. Press the vote button.

** Note: If you don’t see the square buttons to vote, but instead see the voting results, that means someone on your IP Address already voted, or that the voting period has ended, or that you need to refresh the page to see the voting options. Shared IP Addresses are very common in home or work networks.

Let's Go Fly a Kite Let’s Go Fly a Kite
By: Kim at Persimon Dreams,

Blog: Persimon Dreams

Using just 50 rectangles and cutting them, fusing them, and quilting them, a kite was formed. This quilt formed itself – I started to put things together and all of a sudden I looked at what was happening and thought, “Oh, it’s a kite!” I wove wire with ribbon to create a flexible, formable tail.

I used a “wonky” perspective to portray this 3-story barn of a cottage that has a cow theme. My intent was to convey the summer fun atmosphere that pervades with a fairly constant stream of family and friends visiting us and the beach. We have a lot of fun, camaraderie, good food, creative projects.

This quilt came about from a row-by-row that I did with my bee. When designing the layout, lots of pink and green, alligators all over the argyle background, the striped grosgrain ribbon all reminded me of my high school summer years. Most of the bee were Pentagon wives, hence the unusual layout.

Beginner’s Quilt-Along

Block 4 of our Beginner’s Quilt-Along is now available. Pat Sloan named this blocked Jump in the Pool, aka Churn Dash, Double Monkey Wrench and other names. This week’s lessons include ripping out seams, correcting and preventing the veering off problem at the end of a stitching line and pinning for accuracy. View the Block 4 tutorial here.

P.S. Missing out on the fun? You can join the quilt-along at any time. The blocks are easy, and you’ll catch up quickly. Check the Flickr group to see the blocks others have made. We have weekly prizes too!
