A Maine winter. I long to wrap up in flower petals. A pink hibiscus provides inspiration. Layers of pink create giant petals. Much thread painting later, I declare it done. The quilt does not agree. I bead. Sprays of sparkling beads on the dark, asymetrical background finally complete Bali Bloom.

This quilt was created from a block exchange with one of my friendship groups. We did a raw-edge appliqué flower block for each member of the group to exchange. We each ended up with a unique while similar quilt. Although wary at first, this quilt has become one of my favorites. Thanks for looking!

Quilting this panel was like coloring with crayons. Each flower needed a different color of thread and attention to its design. The outer border is quilted in a leaf pattern. I really enjoyed this project. It is hanging in my sewing room to enjoy every day.

I made this quilt for Carolyn S., a co-worker who was retiring. I had only about a week’s notice but I work fast. I combined Carolyn’s loves of gardening and purple to make the design for the quilt. The flowers and green backgrounds are all from stash. I finished the quilt in time for her last day.

This little quilt was inspired by a photograph of a flowering cholla cactus taken by a friend of mine. It’s one of the first quilts I made using the technique described in Susan Carlson’s book, “Free-Style Quilts: A ‘No Rules’ Approach.” I love the bright, happy colors of the blossoms.

I love flowers, all flowers. While in Sisters OR I bought a stonehedge Jelly Roll and made a jelly roll race background. I then appliqued some of my favorite flowers onto it and I like the way it came out. I will use Hi-loft batting and hand quilt my quilt. Should take me about 5 weeks to complete.

This was a nine patch I designed and made from batiks, after it was done I decided to add this fun flower that I drew myself and hand appliqued on. I quilted with tiny bubbles all over the quilt it matching threads but also going over into adjesent nine patches to give it a cool look.

Collected progressive quilt block patterns and bought material at 12 Western PA Shop Hop 2010 quilt shops, on my first shop hop ever. Visited a few “off hop” shops too. Made matching 9 patches when piecing got too hard. Hand pieced the blocks all summer, assembled and hand quilted into the winter.

I took a photo of a parrot tulip in my garden, changed the colour in Photoshop and then printed it onto fabric. It is heavily machine quilted with trapunto in the border. My first entry into the Festival of Quilts in 2009 and it won a Judge’s Choice award.

Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons. For Spring, I see lots of flowers, wildlife looking for food and a tree with lots of dogwood blooms. It’s part fusible applique, blooms are lightly glued on, and free motion quilted with birds, tree branches and leaves.

It was originally to be made from charm squares but I used what I had in purples and greens. I think it’s great!
