I used a moda bakeshop pattern called Cabin in the HIlls. I used tons of retro 30s prints that I bought at my quilt shop in their sample sale. This quilt was made from fabric samples! Along with some solids to make things pop. The pattern is a variation on the log cabin block!

|Camouflage Log Cabin
By: PattyAK, Alaska, USA
The bride wanted just a plain camouflage top – just a large square. Well, I couldn’t stand it… I had to add a pieced border and chose the log cabin as that is what the groom was building for them. Not much piecing required but it sure changed the looks of the quilt. They both loved it.

I made this quilt for me and my husband. It stays on our bed. It was probably the beginning of my fabric stash. Four matching blocks form stars of jewel colors. The background is in my favorite black calico fabric. It has been used enough that it is starting to come apart but I will still use it.

This was my first Log Cabin quilt from Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day series. I cut/pieced it in 1989 and completed the hand-quilting in 1992. This is my only hand-quilted quilt….just take too long for me. I think the colors are back in style!

This was a quilt made for a friend with cancer. On the back were 2 HUGE friendship stars, and I had the entire community sign it. I wish I could show more than one picture!! She took this with her to chemo. It kept her warm, as well as occupied. She’d find new names on it everytime!
Quilt size: width: 68" height: 92"
By: Mary Marcotte, Louisiana, USA
My daughter-in-law chose this quilt as her wedding quilt because she loves the browns, greens and golds. Those colors represent the bayous of our state while the red represents the heart of the Cajun people. My son made a beautiful bed for their room. They treasure both handmade items very much.

|Mac’s Log Cabin Quilt
By: Ginny Dorris, New York, USA
I made the quilt several years ago for my husband Mac for his birthday. We were in the process of buying an old stone house, and I knew he’d be thrilled to have a new but old-looking quilt for our bedroom. And I was right—it’s been there ever since! You can’t go wrong with the log cabin pattern.

By: Sandy Hembree, Oklahoma, USA
This is my improv quilt. Flowers in the center are 3-D origimi. Then I just started adding strips, hst, sqs and anything else I could think of. No square is the same size, so, piecing it was fun to say the least. Can’t wait to do another one, this was too fun.
Quilt size: width: 82" height: 96"
|Radiating Star Log Cabin
By: Amber T, Maryland, USA
There were so many different layouts to choose from after I made all of these blocks, but this is the one I loved the most! I hope that I can eventually make another one to show the difference the layout of the blocks make. So many quilts, so little time…

By: Anudge, California, USA
I so liked these chocolate, tan and red blocks I bought at a yardsale. I almost decided to get rid of the piece, but on second thought, I decided to put them back together as a quilt as you go once I repaired 5 of them. This is what resulted.

|Scarlet and Gray Allover
By: Darlene Gerber, Ohio, USA
As you can see by my blog name I love Scarlet and Gray. What that really means is that I LOVE the Ohio State Buckeyes!! After a 12 year break I got back into quilting 5 years ago. Scarlet and Gray All Over is one of many of my recent quilts that use those colors. It’s from a Marti Michell book.
Quilt size: width: 48" height: 48"
|Seeing Red (the house isn’t selling!)
By: Debbie, Illinois, USA
I made this log cabin quilt the summer we had our house on the market. It wasn’t selling and my husband wasn’t home and I was so wound up that I sewed another log cabin quilt as well! It was very mindless sewing but I am happy with the outcome…and the house finally did sell.
Quilt size: width: 80" height: 80"
|Self-Mitered Log Cabin
By: Anita Grossman Solomon, New York, USA
This was my third version, over ten years, of my design. Each strip of every finished block is the same width. I cut strips 1.5 x 8″
I have no idea how many hundreds of different fabric strips I used. I had to move them off the table one time. Thanksgiving.
Quilt size: width: 69" height: 81"
|Shangri log cabin
By: Tammy Murphy, Ontario, Canada
My very first quilt was a Colorado Log Cabin, I made it when I was 19 yrs old. A few years later it was lost in a move and I still miss that quilt to this day. It wasn’t a pretty quilt but it was my first.
Quilt size: width: 115" height: 115"
|Southwestern Geese and Logs
By: Kathy Fey, Texas, USA
I saw this quilt as a photo in Quiltmania. I have an oil painting in my room of Egyptian gods – man and woman that has all these colors. It was a great challenge as I’m a fairly new quilter. Won’t do one this large any time soon – it will be my bedspread.
Quilt size: width: 102" height: 106"
|Star Log Cabin
By: Marlys Lee, Montana, USA
I love the log cabin block because it is so versatile. When I saw this pattern I thought the stars just made the quilt so different from the normal log cabin quilt.
Quilt size: width: 58" height: 85"
By: CathyW, United Kingdom
A fairly typical two-tone log cabin, with the traditional red centre square. The random scattering of extra red squares happened when I joined together strips cut from fat quarters!
Quilt size: width: 54" height: 70"
By: Jolanda, Portugal
I made this wall hanging just for fun during an afternoon. I tried a wonky log cabin pattern and I loved it. I handquilted it.
Quilt size: width: 16" height: 43"
|The Christmas Star
By: Monique, Montana, USA
I used a design from the book Not Your Grandmother’s Log Cabin book and changed the color combination and layout to create a wall hanging that I can use during Christmas to decorate my home. I often don’t make things to keep for myself, so this is a very fun and special project to me.
Quilt size: width: 45" height: 52"
|The Road Less Traveled
By: Marty Mason, Louisiana, USA
I enjoy using scraps from completed projects so the size of my mini log cabin quilt was determined by the amount of fabric that remained from a large quilt. It took some doing to find a pleasing layout with so few blocks, but I finally decided I liked the meandering “road”. It is less traveled!
Quilt size: width: 12" height: 17"
|The Thirteenth Fandango
By: k3n, United Kingdom
My own original design, regular piecing, foundation paper piecing and machine applique. FMQ freehand on my Janome 6600. The name comes from it being the 13th version I designed and that at one stage, a friend pointed out that the twisted corners looked like ‘fangs’ – so it became ‘Fandango’!
Quilt size: width: 48″" height: 48″"
|Trees for the Forest
By: Jill Stemple, North Carolina, USA
I made this quilt on behalf of my friend April for her daughters 16th birthday because April, who is currently in solitary confinement, was unable to get her daughter a present. I wanted a modern quilt that was young and fun and I needed to make it pretty quickly, so I went with a log cabin.
Quilt size: width: 66" height: 76"
By: Jessica Mirasol, Virginia, USA
This is the first quilt I ever made. My 9-year-old daughter wanted to decorate her room using purple and zebra print. I decided to go with a quilt that was still a traditional pattern, but let her update it with the fabrics. She chose them all herself and they suit her perfectly!

Oh my, so many gorgeous quilts to choose from this week! I’m so glad we can pick five — still not enough though. LOL! I don’t see a link for the slider thingie to view the quilts. I’m sorry that’s not working like you want it to — I *really* liked scrolling through the quilts that way. Thank you so much for continuing to do this every week, and GOOD LUCK to all this week’s participants! Log Cabin blocks are so incredibly versatile, and as evidenced by this week’s entries, makes some GORGEOUS quilts! :)
Ditto what Denise said!! They are all beautiful.
Wow! Beautiful quilts…so hard to choose which ones to vote for. They are all winners!
I tried to leave a message last night, but the computer was on a go slow for some reason, this evening, boom, straight here, studied the quilts, oh me oh my, the are all just fabulous aren’t they and only five votes to use. I have voted for five, wish I could give everyone a vote, yes I know that would be sily, but hey, everyone, your quilt is fabulous.
Good luck to all, and thank you for doing this each week for us, we get to see wonderful stuff on here.
