Carisa's Quilt Carisa’s Quilt
By: Nanabanana, Kansas, USA

I made this scrappy quilt for my dauther’s 23rd birthday in 2006. I have made her many quilts through out the years, so I used as many scraps from those quilts that I could. She is now married and the quilt is on their bed. She just loves it and all the memories that it holds.

This was done as a Mystery Quilt given by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville. I am trying to get rid of my scraps by making all of her quilts. So far I have about 4.

I used a mixture of lights, mediums and dark reproduction prints to make the chevron pattern for my nephew’s birthday. There are over 1200 pieces in the quilt. I love charm (scrappy) quilts.

Chintz Circles Chintz Circles
By: Cathi, Ontario, Canada

Chintz Circles was made for my aunt’s 90th birthday. I remember chintz in her house when I was growing up and her favourites colours are pinks and greens so, as this reminded me of chintz, I named it Chintz Circles.

Crazy Coloring Crazy Coloring
By: Melissa Corry, Indiana, USA

A year ago, a friend told me about how you can print appliqués in your printer using freezer paper. Love it!! I wanted to try it out, but using scraps in case it didn’t work out well. And that is how Crazy Coloring came to be. Aren’t the crayons the perfect touch to this stacked coin quilt!

Glens Quilt Glens Quilt
By: Khristina, Australia

This was my first mystery quilt made by a tutorial that Bonnie Hunter first put out. I was so excited to do a scrappy quilt using fabrics from only my stash. I am so happy with how it turned out. I visited the States on holiday and my good friend Roslyn Atwood quilted it for me while I was there.

Meet Me At The Fair Meet Me At The Fair
By: Jennifer Richards, Australia

This quilt pattern is “Road to St Louis”, hence the title – if you know the movie, you will know the song. Scrap fabrics were used for the small squares alternating with grey/green batik and pale green marble print. Quilted on my Bernina with Aurifil thread, border quilting design by Mary Covey.

No Scrap Left Behind No Scrap Left Behind
By: Contessa Timmerman, Washington, USA

My husband asked me what can I do with such little pieces of fabrics. I used all the little bits of scraps I’ve been saving for years. The oldest and favorite pieces of material is the blue water drops I’ve had for 15 years. The newest is the brown strip at the bottom. Scraps are my friend.

It was a featured project in our Australian Patchwork & Quilting magazine.

Oklahoma Backroads Oklahoma Backroads
By: Charmaine Taylor, Pennsylvania, USA

This is a Bonnie Hunter (Quiltville) pattern. It is very easy to make and I enjoyed every minute of it. I used lots of scraps from previous quilts. Some were pretty old. The back is pieced also. Sadly this quilt didn’t even make a dent in my scrap bin! Guess I’ll have to make another.

One Step short of file 13 One Step short of file 13
By: Lindy, Washington, USA

Decided to eradicate my 15+ years of scraps. Began cutting into 5,4,3,2 inch squares, 2 in. strips, etc. When there was nothing left but strings, I pieced those into fabric and cut out blocks. Very random, low stress, therefore great fun! I love the spunky yellow and using nothing to make something!

Postage Due Postage Due
By: Sharon Vrooman, New York, USA

I like to make baby postage stamp quilts from repurposed clothing and students’s scraps. The backing is ticking salvaged from a mattress factory sale. I use wool batting and hand tie, trying to replicate what my gran-aunties might have made – what they called cradle cots.

Rainbow Straits Rainbow Straits
By: Majikmom, Missouri, USA

From M’liss Rae Hawley’s More Fat Quarter Quilts. I had a lot of bright scrap strips from various projects and this seemed like a great way to use them up.
It’ was great to snuggle up in on a gloomy day, but a family member loved it too so now it’s gone away.

Scenes of the Seasons Scenes of the Seasons
By: Jen, Massachusetts, USA

Made using Carol Doak’s Scenic BOM from her Yahoo Group. Each block is 6″ square and the sashing is 1.5″ to give you a sense of size. This quilt was made entirely from scraps. Each month is represented, January to December. The flowers in May & the flag in Nov. are about the size of a quarter.

Scrappy Cats with Sophistication Scrappy Cats with Sophistication
By: Kathy, North Carolina, USA

I really don’t do scrap quilts. This quilt was a result of leftovers of 3 other projects. Therefore, to me, it’s scrappy; because it was not planned. It just happened. This quilt was donated to Project Linus as were the 3 planned quilts from which this one was derived.

Scrappy Flowers Scrappy Flowers
By: LaurenP, Tennessee, USA

I designed this quilt using scraps from my previous quilts. There are tiny white flowers on the sashing and I quilted a flower in each block. Now, it hangs behind my bed serving as a modern headboard.

A 2003 attempt to bust my stash! I loved the simplicity of the design set against the black sashing. It was a pleasure to piece. I had it professionally machine quilted. But I still have a large stash!

I used up all my bright strings to make this quilt for my niece’s 20th birthday! I had to make crumb blocks on the border as I was running out of the royal blue border fabric.

Squirrely Squirrely
By: Lizze, Washington, USA

I made my husband a log cabin out of flannel, and had all these wonderful pieces left over! I couldn’t just throw them away, so I made this lap blanket with all the scrap. Yes, even the borders. The funny thing is, I finished this in a weekend, it took me MONTHS to finish off that king sized LC!

String Symphony I and II String Symphony I and II
By: Shelley C, Maine, USA

I made these quilts for my daughter and her best friend when they graduated from HS. I used pages from the telephone book for the foundations to get that diamond shape. The color is not true to life; they are brighter and prettier in person. Barely dented the string basket!!!!

This is a table runner I made from scraps only… I love the colorful effect of it. I even used scraps of thick woolen blankets as batting…

The Very Hungry Caterpillar The Very Hungry Caterpillar
By: Celine, United Kingdom

My son LOVES the Hungry Caterpillar. I went shopping for fabrics with him 2 years ago and couldn’t leave the panel behind. He has often asked since when he’d have his quilt and finally he is sleeping with it. I thought of adding borders around the panel but decided to use bright scraps from my stash

Waiting for My Kids in My Flower Garden Waiting for My Kids in My Flower Garden
By: Charlotte Noll, Florida, USA

Scrappy Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt top hand pieced waiting for my children during their many activities. My first hand pieced quilt and I loved how the time would fly by while I was sewing. I embroidered many bugs – flying & hiding. It will always remind me of their carefree childhood years.

I’m voting for Glen’s quilt by Khristina of Sew Prim Khris as I think it is perfect choice for a gentlemans quilt and an excellent example of a first quilt! Thankyou

Oh my, this was a difficult one. They are all beautiful and it was so hard to pick a favourite.

Once again (always!) the choice is hard to make. And all the inspiration! Some great ideas of what to do next time! I love that all of us ‘addicted’ quilters admit our attempts to ‘lighten the load’ of fabric is futile at this stage of gathering!

I am in love with Glen’s quilt. I looks like it was a lot of work and the beautiful fall color scheme really makes it stand out.

I love the soft color pallette of the Chintz Circles. It’s scrappy but has beautiful color placement.
