Charms for Charity Contest

A friend and I, along with her mom and several other friends, will be getting together in the new year on a regular basis to make quilts for Victoria’s Quilts Canada.

We need fabric. While we’ll all be donating fabric from our own stashes, I thought it would be extra special to have fabric donated from around the world. Here’s the plan.

Send me six 5-inch charms of 100% cotton fabric. Three of the charms will go directly to making quilts for charity and the other three will go into a pile for a contest. Once I have 36 charms in the contest pile, I’ll do a random draw and one lucky sender will win the entire pile of 36.

You’ll have a one in 12 chance to win. I’ll just keep making piles of 36 to randomly draw a winner. So, if 36 of you participate, there will be three winners.

The completed quilts will be labelled, made with fabric donated from quilters around the world. How special will that be for the lucky person to receive one of the quilts?

Instructions

Send me six 5-inch charms of 100% cotton fabric. No more than two of the same design, please. Six charms will fold nicely to fit a standard business envelope, so it shouldn’t need any extra postage.

Print clearly on a piece of paper: Your name, email address, blog address (if you have one) and your country and state/province if in the US or Canada. Your email address will NOT be published online.

Deadline to mail: December 31, 2008 (final draw January 31, 2009)

my charms are on their way! But I really want to see the quilts that you make from the charms! My column in the winter 2008 Canadian Quilter suggested some places to donate quilts so I am glad to hear that you are taking up the challenge — maybe not cause I wrote about it — nevertheless, there are so many of us with a stash of fabric and so many that need just a little something extra in their lives, once in a while.

    Hi Susan,

Absolutely, the quilts will be posted on my web site. I’m really excited about it.

I don’t get the Canadian Quilter yet, but I hope to in the new year. I’ll look for your article at my guild meeting tomorrow night. We might also donate to Quilts of Valour and the neo-natal centres at the hospital. I’ve been involved with Victoria Quilts for more than a year now, and I know the need is so great.

Thanks for participating, I look forward to receiving your charms.

    Cheers,
    Michele

Hi. This is not related to this post, but it’s the only place I can see where I may contact you. Anyway, my question is; Do you know how I might be able to find a particular fabric. I have a 5 x 5 inch square, and have posted a picture and request on my blog, but no one has been able to provide any guidance. Thank-you, Gail Rosaline of the blog, Samadhi.

Is it too late to join? I have some charms ready to go.
Is there a limit to how many I can send it? I would be happy to send some extra for charity.
    Thanks!

    Hi Sara,

No, it’s not too late, and sure I’ll gladly accept extras. Thanks!! The last drawing for the contest will be the end of January, to allow time for all the mail to make it to me during the holiday season.

    All the best,
    Michele
