10yrlogo list

Today is my special day to help Gudrun Erla celebrate 10 years in the United States, the 10th anniversary of her quilt design company, GE Designs and the release of her newest book, Fast & Furious Home. Don’t miss the great give-aways below too.

Fast_Furious_Home_lg

I’ve been trying to remember when I first came across Gudrun’s work, and I can’t remember if I met her at Quilt Market one year or if it was this adorable Sweet Trimmings wall hanging tutorial.

Being last on this blog hop tour, meant I got to read all of the posts from the other bloggers and came across this great interview that our friends at the Fat Quarter Shop did with Gudrun at Spring Quilt Market:

Then I discovered that Gudrun used to be a physical education teacher, but what caught my attention and made me laugh was the Quiltmaker Shuffle that she organized:

Gudrun is famous for her quilt-as-you-go patterns. Let’s take a closer look at some of the projects in her new Fast & Furious Home book:

I haven’t tried the QAYG method, I’ve been afraid that I would mess up my blocks. I normally just put it together in the normal fashion, but it sounds easy and I’ll have to try it. Thanks for the give away oppotunity.

I have not tried the QAYG method, but I do have one of Gudrun’s table runner patterns. I like the idea of sewing/quilting as one. In her new book, I really like the Log Roll Table Runner and the Diamond Charmer Topper. Thank you for the giveaway and joining the celebration.

My first ever quilt as you go was Gudrun’s Braided runner about 9 years ago. I also took part in the blog tour and made her sweet trimmings wall quilt. I own most of her books and have made several baby quilts, bed runner and tons of placemats using her method. I have not purchased this super book yet, so winning it would be awesome. I have many quilt tops that are waiting patiently for the final step—to be quilted.

It works well for smaller projects, with the only final step – to add the binding.

I have tried Quilt-As-You-Go once, on the second quilt I ever made. I didn’t work, not at all, I ripped the quilt apart after a year of use and quilted it again the traditional way. Looking at all these awesome QAYG-projects I’m sure I just didn’t get the hang of the technique, and I was lacking quilting experience anyway. I think I’ll give it a try again.

Many years ago, I made a “quilt as you go” block to block quilt. I wasn’t real happy with the method. I’m now ready to try quilting a row at a time and using a similar method with not as many joins. I think I’ve improved with my skills and there have been changes in the method, too.

I have not done a quilt as you go project yet. I took up piecing quilts rather late in life and I am still eager to learn any new tips and instructions. ( I am now 88 yrs. Young!!)
I will be purchasing some of these lovely patterns!!

    Thanks, Wanda

My first quilt was actually a king size ‘lap quilt’ where you quilt each block and THEN assemble it front and back. I havent’ done a quilt as you go as of yet. I did save the tree to do soon though and the book looks amazing!!

I made a quilt as you go years ago on my serger but it didn’t seem to hold together very well. Recently I made a lap quilt out of strip using the QAYG method and it worked wonderfully.

I did a “sort of” quilt and go. I had made a tee shirt quilt that was getting out of hand to ever quilt on a home machine. I framed the squares, layered them and quilted. I then connected with sashing following another book I have. It came out really well and would love to use the plan again. I would love to learn Gunrun’s method. Her patterns are so pretty.
