3 Geese 3 Geese
By: Persimon Dreams,
Wisconsin, USA

Inspired by the Project QUILTING challenge – Primary Geese. I had to use primary colors and flying geese. The brown squares all have three dimensional ‘lips’ of fabric on them to add yet another element. This runner was fun to make and challenging to get the piecing accurate.

African flying geese African flying geese
By: Linda Izzard,
Australia

My mother embroidered the African animals for me, as a surprise. They are so beautiful, and I decided to use them all in a quilt. I thought the African print fabrics would make great flying geese and they would emphasis the embroideries. Just made it up as I went along really.

African safari African safari
By: Debbie Lange Quilting,
Indiana, USA

This quilt evolved. I started with Four Patch Posie center blocks and thought the result was uninteresting so I sashed them with bright solid colors. Then I added Flying Geese to the sides turning them into Star blocks. The white between the stars was too “white” so I sashed them with black batik.

Duck a L'orange Duck a L’orange
By: Karen H,
Ontario, Canada

The goose/duck fabric, blue rays & a rust fabric were part of a challenge. I added four more fabrics. The geese/ducks were my inspiration for the circle of flying geese which I drafted. The quilt is embroidered, beaded & shaded with watercolour paints. The bottom edge is a hand beaded fringe.

Flight of the Seagulls Flight of the Seagulls
By: Carolyn Braun,
New Jersey, USA

There are 6 sizes of geese in the quilt. Some are paper pieced, some are pieced using the quick geese method, and the few lonely ones are pieced with scrap triangles. I quilted the quilt with a wave pattern. The geese go all different directions in the quilt which remind me of seagulls a the beach.

Flying By the Seat of My Pants Flying By the Seat of My Pants
By: Sandi,
Wisconsin, USA

I made this quilt a couple of years ago for a swap called Modify Tradition. I used a one-seam flying geese technique that resulted in three-dimensional folds. The fabric has birds on chairs, which is how I came up with the name “Flying By the Seat of My Pants.”

Gull Lake Cabin Gull Lake Cabin
By: Laurie Edwards,
California, USA

A custom designed quilt for our friends up at Gull Lake CA. We fish every year in front of their cabin for opening weekend, so last year I designed and made this for them to keep at the cabin. The flying geese represent all the birds that fly around that beautiful Lake in the Eastern Sierras.

By: Vicki Purnell,

This quilt has machine embroidered panels using the Grannie’s Hexagons from Mother Hen Quilts. The flying geese panels have string pieced geese bodies inspired by Bonnie Hunter from Quiltville. The fabric in the wings of the geese is the same that the embroideries have been stitched on.

Proud to be Canadian Proud to be Canadian
By: Peggyp,
Ontario, Canada

I saw this pattern and thought it was a beautiful tribute to Canada. I searched high and low for the fabric line, which was discontinued by then, and found most of it at various shops. It incorporates 3-D flying geese, the first time I have tried this.

The pattern is by Sipiweske Quilt Designs.

Racing Geese Racing Geese
By: Melanie Jackson,
Oklahoma, USA

This was a challenge at quilt camp a couple of years ago. We were given a bag of strips and a certain amount of time to make something. This is what I came up with. I’m not sure of the exact measurements, because I couldn’t find this ufo in my UFO box (been cleaning).

Wild Goose Chase (Debbie Rogowski) Wild Goose Chase (Debbie Rogowski)
By: Debbie Rogowski,
Texas, USA

This is my first goose quilt and I sure went all the way. I found the pattern in a magazine but the instructions were old and out dated. I made a few mistakes, but will now know better next time. Even though I don’t like orange, this is for my granddaughter, I really have grown fond of it.

Wild Goose Chase (DOLORES FEGAN) Wild Goose Chase (DOLORES FEGAN)
By: DOLORES FEGAN,
Kentucky, USA

This was my challenge quilt which must include 3 flying geese blocks. My quilt is of a little girl chasing a real wild goose. It was inspired by seeing the wild geese fly in autumn and a real goose in a parking lot when my daughter was young.
