Fall’s Glory Table Runner

Since I can’t enter this week’s Table Runners quilt contest, I thought I’d share the one I created for my mom’s birthday earlier this month.

It started out as an experiment in piecing curves. I cut 6 9-inch squares of hand-dyed fabrics, stacked them on top of each other, then cut two slightly off-centre gentle curves.

I mixed up the pieces, then stitched them back together. I squared up my blocks, joined them together and added a 3″ border. Spray basted and ready for quilting:

My free motion skills aren’t accurate enough yet to try to complete this spiral design, so I used regular stitch mode and the edge of my 1/4″ foot. I spun the quilt around and around and around to complete the design.

I am thrilled with how the spiral design turned out. So much gorgeous texture in echo-like quilting.

A happy experiment!

This came out great. I thought of entering the contest, but then I realized that the runners I had done were before I had a digital camera. these were given as a gift.

Beautiful! It looks like suede with the fabrics you used and the quilting accentuates the “curvy” look of the pieces. Wonderful job!
