A walk through an aspen forest in Autumn was the inspiration for this piece made in Noriko Endo’s confetti technique. Tiny snippets of fabric are arranged on a background with painted and larger cut pieces for tree trunks. All is held together with tullebandvthen free motion quilted.

Last fall, a few weeks after I started my very first quilt , I knew I wanted to make an autumn-inspired wall hanging with pumpkins, a piano key border, and appliqued leaves. This is what I designed – it’s my first attempt at applique and I hope to have it ready to hang in the next week.

I designed and made this quilt for my daughter-in-law. She loves fall and fall colors. I machine appliqued the pumpkin with a hand guided satin stitch. The fabrics include batiks, a multi-color corn print and falling leaves. She loved and I did too, so I made one for myself as well.

A friend of mine said she had never owned a real quilt. I was saddened by this. I knew she liked fall colors. I let those two things roam around in my head until I realized I made the perfect top almost 10 years ago. So I found it, pieced together a backing and quilted it. Better Late (than never).

I did the quilting by sewing on the edge of all the appliques. Then I took the papers that came off the leaves and used them as a stencil so that I could sew around them I placed them in open spaces all over the quilt.

The border fabric was my inspiration for the falling leaves. The block is a variation on the Maple Leaf block. I liked the setting of leaves turned different directions to give the effect of falling leaves. This wallhanging is displayed on my front door during the Autumn season.

I started this quilt as part of a Mystery Quilt project at one of my guild’s retreats. Of course, I didn’t know what the pattern would be when we received the cutting instructions, but I decided I wanted a large one. Ultimately I made 132 blocks although it took me 3 years of retreats.

The fabric used is autumn maple leaves & the quilt is a one block wonder. I love the warmth of this quilt. So did my friend. He jokingly asked if he could have it. As much as I love it I couldn’t say no. It makes me happy to see one of my quilts go to a good home where it will be loved & cared for.

Tumbling Leaves pattern {from allpeoplequilt.com by Gail Abeloe} features random arrangement, with the two different sizes of HST leaves. Andover Tic Tac blender fabrics make the scrappy leaves pop with rich fall color. The back is gold Tic Tac , with the center strip pieced from the leftovers.

    That’s a hard choice. I quite like the Winter Chickadees but as I don’t plan ahead for food, I’m going to go with Raven Moon. Though I will admit that the WInter CHickadees would make a great present for my youngest sister.

    I love the chickadee design! I remember them from Minnesota when I was a small child. I don’t believe we have them here in California….robins, jays, hummers & crows aplenty here!

    I really liked Red Maple. Just beautiful. I like the fun ones to make and have a chuckle over. I do think that the autumn colors are the most fun to work with. But my Favorite one has to be Mr. Turk!

    I absolutely love the Black-capped chickadee pattern. I feed these polite little birds black-oiled sunflower seeds in the winter. Each chickadee politely takes one seed from the feeder and then flies away to a tree limb to eat it.

    The Black-Capped Chickadee Card Pattern is definitely my favorite pattern. Chickadees are my most favorite birds. They are so cheery and fun! Each year we have at least one clutch born in our bird house.

    The postcard designs are fantastic. Milepost touches a nostalgic nerve from our Alaskan trips and having received Milepost magazine for awhile. Raven Moon is lovely with the swirls and colors. Those are probably my favorites, if I have to name them.
