Aurifil Threads are Irresistible

Welcome to my stop on the first-ever Aurifil Blog Hop. Thanks so much Pat for inviting me to share my love of Aurifil threads.

I hope you’ve been having fun on this blog hop, collecting the Spring blocks that have been created and leaving comments for your chance to win some Irresistible Aurifil Threads.

Aurifil Threads are Irresistible.

Aurifil makes 4 weights of its 100% cotton Mako threads: 12wt, 28wt, 40wt and 50wt. The larger the number, the smaller the thread. I use the 50wt thread for all of my piecing. I love how thin it is and that it doesn’t add any bulk to my seams when pressed.

Pat’s done a great video on the different thread weights and how to recognize the spool colours:

I love how Aurifil threads have a tiny bit of shine to them and shimmer ever-so-slightly when the light hits them. Hopefully you can see the shimmering effect in this photo:

I love the subtle gradients in many of their threads. I have two nieces and these purple and pink gradient threads get used often.

I love that when I use the 50wt thread for hand appliqué, the stitches vanish right into the fabric.

I love that I can get gorgeous machine blanket stitch, accurate stitch-in-the-ditch and beautiful dense quilting with Aurifil threads. I’ve been using Aurifil threads for two years and not once has my thread broken.

For me, Aurifil threads are irresistible. They make my quilting life more enjoyable and beautiful.

Here’s my block: Hidden Star. Made up of simple half-square triangles and four patches. Don’t let the on-point layout scare you, it’s super easy to put together.

    Oh wow…that pink and purple thread is very pretty. I didn’t know that Aurifil made that many different weights of threads. I’m going now to watch the video you posted. Thank you for the lovely block. I sure hope to be able to try out some of this thread.

    I love the in-between seasons. You know, when it’s changing from one season to another. When Summer is changing to Fall, Fall into Winter, Winter into Spring and Spring into Summer. I love the anticipation of what is to come. I think this is why I love color, all kinds of color. I never stick with just one favorite.

    My favorite season is fall. I love the colors, the look of the sunlight at that time of year and the smell and feel of the crisp air. I use that as an inspiration for a lot of the quilts I make. Thanks for being part of the Aurifil Blog Hop.

    My favorite season is Fall. I love the colors of autumn and enjoy living in an area where they are at their loveliest in my favorite month of October. However………Spring is looking very inviting this year as I am tired of all that white snow. I am ready for some color! Would love to win some Aurifil thread. Used it for the first time a few weeks ago and I loved it. I’m actually headed out this morning to buy more!

    I love that Aurifil threads are Irresistible! Just like Spring! I like Fall, but it leads into the long cold Winter, so Spring is my new favorite season. It inspires me with beautiful colors, fresh green growth, moderating temperatures, light breezes, and new animal babies. Spring is so very Irresistible!

    Living in New England, I have to say, Spring is my favorite season, it means new, clean, fresh, colorful! I plan to use fresh spring-like fabrics for the blog hop blocks and can’t wait for the chance to win wonderful threads by Auriful! Never thought to do do handwork with it, use it for piecing all the time. my eyes are open.

    My favorite season is WINTER!!! Yes, I am one of the crazy ones. I just love the crisp freshness of new snow, and yes even at my age of 50+, I still make Snow Angels.

    I’m a summer person. Heat doesn’t seem to bother me, and I can go barefoot without people looking at me funny (like in other seasons!).

    Your opinions and review of the Aurifil have been the most compelling so far… yes, yes, I’ll get some as soon as I have the opportunity!! 😉

    Actually, I like spring and fall. If I have to pick one, it’s fall because I know winter is coming instead of summer and I like winter much better than the hot, hot, hot heat of Oklahoma summers. I like the pastels associated with spring and summer much better than the autumn colors though. I like the brisk air that can be associated with each spring and fall. It makes me want to wake up and be creative. BTW – I love your Chubby Chicks quilt – I have two to make – one is started – I have two grandsons and I thought they would be perfect gifts for two five year olds. I hope I get them done while they are still five – lol Thanks for the beautiful pattern.

    I love all of the seasons and each for their own unique reasons. I especially love summer because I live in the desert and it isn’t as crowded in the summer. Fall colors are my favorite colors, though. I find Aurifil thread and the many colors of it irresistible. I’ve started a collection. Thanks for all the additional information on them.

    I love fall. It’s a wonderful season, with a lot of awesome stuff – the first time you can breathe after a hot season, the leaves turning colors, the first frost, the perfect weather for campfires, s’mores (hey, I can dream, right?), pumpkins, hot apple cider, apple picking, apple butter (I love apples!), my birthday…yep, I love fall!

    I love spring, summer, and fall in the Pacific Northwest! Winter (rainy season)–not so much, but it is a great time to be indoors quilting, with a soup on the stove.

    I also love Aurifil threads. Use them in piecing, hand applique, machine quilting. Hope to try the thicker soon for hand quilting.

    I love spring………putting the garden in, seeing baby animals, knowing that fresh food is coming……love fresh food from the garden, camping, hiking, seeing neighbors. It just has such a feeling of renewal. Would love to try these threads…….what better way than on your cute block……..daffidils are blooming in my front yard………just like a promise of what is to come……..thanks

    My favorite season is definitely Spring. I love the warmer air after the long Midwest winters and look forward so much each year to my Lilacs blooming. I just love the Lilac scent. It’s my favorite of all and when the windows are opened each Spring the Lilac smell fills my entire house.

    My favorite is the end of spring and beginning of summer. It’s a little warmer, and the trees are providing full shade. I love hearing the bells from ice cream carts and seeing kids play ball in the park and seeing the fruit stands in the back of pickup trucks. Just thinking about it makes me feel warm and my heart thaws from wintery-ness just a little bit.

    Thank you for the great video. I am going to the Sewing and Quilting Expo in Cleveland, Ohio in March and I will be sure to look for Aurifil so I can stock up. I like all the seasons, but spring is probably my favorite.

    I love spring because in the North of Norway the winter is so long, cold and dark with a lot og snow. After two months not seeing the sun I start looking forward to spring with bright sunshine, birds singing, and soon the midnight sun will brighten our nights.

    I love all the seasons, but I think my fav at the moment might be fall. Perhaps because I miss it the most living in Atlanta – the New England leaf colors are so vivid and crisp, and that cold snap in the air! Since we had 5″ of snow and ice, I got my winter fix for the year, and certainly wouldn’t want the winter the north has had this year…and spring and summer will be here so soon! Thank you for the lovely block and giveaway!

    I love all seasons except winter. I don’t like to shovel snow and if I would never see another snowflake I would be ecstatic! The only nice thing about winter is that I don’t have to make up an excuse to stay inside and sew!!!!!

    I love spring with all the new things growing in my garden – seeing changes daily. However, I also really enjoy the snow and the cold (has nothing to do w/ my mold allergies or my curly hair that frizzes in the more moderate temps!).

    Oddly enough I like Winter the best – at least in west Texas. I didn’t like it all when I was growing up in Nebraska. I love to quilt when it’s cold outside and cloudy and particularly raining like it will never stop. I, like you, use Auriful for piecing and long arming – it never lets me down!

    Oh Michele I LOVE your block. Now I have tried just about everything I can to make half square triangles (even with Thangles I have not succeeded). Anyway your way looks super duper easy and I’m going to have a go tonight with it. Thank you so much for your great instructions. Okay now for my favorite season – it is SPRING.     My favorite season would have to be fall. I love the cooler weather, after a hot, humid summer. I love the fall colors, and driving out to the farmstands. I love the way the air smells, and the way it feels.

    I’ve always said fall for the colors and pumpkins. But as I get older, Spring is becoming my favorite because it means the end of winter. The flower and birds are just irresistible right now!

    I can never decide if I like Spring or Fall the best. In Spring I like Spring the best, and in the Fall I like Fall the best!!!!!! Spring has the beautiful flowers, but Fall has the beautiful cozy colors!!!!!

    My Favorite Season is always the one approaching… I’m always anxious to “jump to the next” season with the promises that each season holds. After a lonG winter, Spring can’t get here fast enough. Spring is the funny one, it’s never long enough to become tiring (unless it happens to hold a real bad string of bad weather). Often Summer arrives in full bloom and I’m wondering what happened to Spring (certainly the Spring flowers spent wayyy too fast). But by the end of the Summer’s friends, fireworks and fun, I’m looking forward to Trick-or-Treaters then the pumpkin pies then the candy canes and cute mittens….. and of course I love winter for the hours of sewing time it allows…. but then those darn seed catalogues arrive and I am thinking of spring and planting the garden…. those real flowers tease what fun they’d be as an applique project.     I love fall the best. The colors! Oh the colors, yellows, oranges, rusts..reds.. greens .. I just love all of the colors. Ususlly all of the colors of summer are still around, and then just as they are fading, a treat is in store as the leaves begin to change and bring the colors back in all their glory. I just LOVE the fall!

    Spring is a time of promise and love to see plants emerging. But summer is my favorite, I spend hours outside working in my gardens and driving thru the woods. I like the square and will download it, thanks. Have never tried the thread but it sounds great.

    Oh, that is a tough one! Here in western NY every season is really beautiful (yes, winter too!!). If I have to pick one, it is a very close cal between autumn with amazing colors and spring with all the nature’s awakenings!!! Can I have two favorites? 🙂

    My favorite is spring except where I live the wind blows a lot but the birds sing in the morning out my window when it is warm enough and not hot enough to leave the windows open. The desert can be tricky. I have been using Aurifil for my piecing but would love to try more colors on my applique, so I hope I win something!!!! Your block is really nice.

    I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE fall. I lean toward fall colors in every choice I make. Living in Arizona, we don’t see the change in season like other parts of the country but I see the fall colors all year around.

    I’ve also been using Aurifil for a few years and I agree, using a heavier weight feels so bulky now! 😀 My favorite season is spring. I enjoy watching the new flowers pop up with happy bees buzzing about them.

    I love spring and all the blooming trees and flowers. I also love Aurifil thread. It doesn’t clog up your machine with lint and is easy to work with.     Spring and Fall are tied for my favorite, and pretty much for the same reason, Colour!
    I love colour so the pretty new, or the dramatic old, both make me happy! This year I think Spring will be preferred just because it means this winter is over!

    My favorite season would be fall / autumn. I love the colours of the trees, the start of many evening spent together with friends and family or snuggled up under a quilt watching a movie while working on another quiltproject. I love the sound of rain and storms against the windows, knowing i am warm and comfy inside. Knowing that in a few months spring will come again and a new circle of life will start. Only downside to this season is that winter is next. For me winter can be skipped.

    Spring, hands down. The bulbs I planted in the fall greet me with their perky faces. The days grow longer, and I am filled with energy that has stored up over the winter.     I’ve always loved fall the best…it gets cooler and much more comfortable with lower humidity. And I love the colors of fall, especially in the trees. I wish there was a way to avoid winter though! LOL

    Thanks so much for the bright happy block it will go well with the others, I appreciate it. Hmmmm I guess fall would be only because to me fall is the start of what is filled with warm colors, the beautiful harvest moon and everything seems to be filled with wonderful smells of baked goods and then we start seeing friends and family which we may have not saw in awhile winter happens and then after all that it is time to do some heavy quilting because it is way too cold outside for everything else.

    My favorite season is probably summer at the lake, only because of the relaxed attitude everyone has…..we wake up late or very early, nature is alive, love the sounds of the lake waves splashing onto shore, napping on the dock or the boat (or maybe squeezing in a little hand sewing), and late night dinners.

    I could certainly use some of the Aurifil thread out on the boat this next summer, when I’m doing my hand applique! Thanks for the chance to participate!

    I have two seasons that I like. Spring – Everything is waking from its long winter nap. Peeking up from Mother Earth. New things are great. Fall- Everything is getting ready for its long winter nap. Love the autumn colors and the crunch of the leaves under foot. Putting on a sweater is like meeting up with old friends. I like how you have made the star in your block…looks like it could be hard but isn’t.

    What a great block! So simple yet so effective.
    As for my favourite season… I’ve always liked Autumn. I don’t like the heat and Autumn is that bit cooler, without the shivering cold of winter. Plus I’ve always been fascinated by deciduous trees because we didn’t have any at our house when I was growing up.

    I think fall is my favorite time of year. I like the cooler weather and spring is just so busy we don’t have time to enjoy it (we are ranchers). Fall is also when we have our BQG Quilting Retreat so that could have something to do with it.

    Along with so many of you, my favorite season is Spring, the renewal of life. In SC, we’re now enjoying the daffodils opening their little yellow heads right now and the crocuses are in full bloom. The buds are all swollen on the trees and the earth is waking up all around us. One can’t help but smile and be inspired by the all the colors coming alive again!

    Even when I was a child, I loved going back to school in the Fall. Probably why I became a teacher. I love the fall colors, new crayons, new shoes , new books and school bag. The richness of the reds, browns, golds.

    Spring is my favorite season because it is a new start
    of life from the flowers that bloom to the leaves on the trees with baby birds. The beautiful colors of the flowers in spring is what the Aurifil thread colors remind me of.

    Cute block! I love star blocks and this one is not one I have seen before!

    I love all the seasons for different reasons. Spring with the new flowers and soft rains, pastel colors and irises hydrangeas. Summer with the warmth of the sun, blue cool waters and parades and fireworks. Fall has the orange, red and yellows that are gorgeous, falling leaves, apple cider and bonfires. Last, winter with the cool crisp snow, the bare trees and snowmen. Who could ask for more? 🙂

    My Favorite Season? That is hard to say as I really like each for my own reason. We love to camp in our 5th Wheel and for that Spring & Fall are the best. It’s a chance to enjoy beauty and nature at it’s finest! Then Summer and Winter is my chance to enjoy the sunshine, swimming pool, family time and Winter is beautiful for the Snow and crispness in the air and birds eating at the feeder. It also seems to be my favorite sewing time.

    My favorite season? Has to be fall. Here in the desert southwest we don’t see much change of seasons, but fall means cooler temperatures are coming, and after months of 100*+ days cool is good. Winter is mild, so that is also to be looked forward to.

    Fall is my favorite season…it just gives me a zest for life! I love the brisk air, the intoxicating riotous colors, the scent of wood smoke on the air….just love it.
    I’m glad to read about these threads and find out how I should be using the different weights…I never used heavier thread for my quilting…just always used the piecing thread…so maybe my quilts will improve with a nicer look to the stitches?

    My favorite season is also spring. One of the best things is seeing our front yard crabapple tree in bloom. When it “pops” in May, the white blooms look just like popcorn… so we call it the popcorn tree. It’s a show-stopper. Hey, thanks for this lovely giveaway. I already know about the wonderful features of 50-weight Aurifil. I use it for everything quilt-y.

    I love winter. I can put soup on in the crockpot, curl up in front of the fireplace with cocoa beside me, and applique to my heart’s content. Even better if it is snowing outside!

    I love summer because the days are long & that gives me lots of time to work outside in the gardens, then I can sew all night long, and poof! It’s time to go outside again. Winter nights just make me want to snuggle up to my puppy under a nice warm blanket and EAT.

    Autumn. When I was growing up in Southern California, autumn was a non-season. Moving to Oregon as an adult, I was astonished by the outlandish beauty of the season.     My favorite season is the Christmas season. I love the lights, the music, and the spirit of the season.

    Oh, wait you meant like the four seasons of the year. In that case I have to pick Summer. I love the warmth, the flowers, the fact that there is no snow on the ground and we can ride out tandem bike. Living in Alaska, winter seems to last forever. Summer also means that I am off work, but since I am retiring at the end of this school year I will be off forever, unless I find a new career when I grow up. 🙂

    I love Aurifil thread, it makes sewing so much cleaner as it is does not leave lint behind like all the other threads I have tried.

    My favourite season is winter – we are snowbirds and head to Arizona for 5 months. The rest of the Canada and the US are freezing and we are toasty warm and enjoying sunshine.

    I love Spring everything is so new and new life is just beautiful. Winter I hate the Nebraska winters I really need to move.

    I love the Aurifil threads there are so many beautiful colors, and that pink and purple I have to get those I would be using them all the time. Purple is my all time favorite.

    I love the hidden star I have to make that one, it will make a great quilt and people will really be talking about it.

    Oh by the way this is a great site.

    I can’t remember if I left a comment yesterday. I remember I read this post yesterday but my mind was moving ahead to the fact I was headed to Firefly Quilt Shop to drop off a retreat project and buy fabric and to buy Aurifil thread. LOL! I used Aurifil for the first time on my husband’s NASCAR placemat and then on my mug rugs for your swap. I love how it sews!! I’ll be buying more! Thanks for sharing and I had to look twice and then I saw the “hidden star” in your block!!

    hands down, it’s winter. i love the smell of snow. i love the cold on my nose. i love the quiet and the beauty when everything is snow covered. i love catching snowflakes on my tongue. i love playing in the snow, making snowforts and snow angels, ice skating, sledding, skiing. and, really, how can you beat, cuddled up in you new favorite quilt, just finishing the binding with your new aurifil thread, looking out at the sparkley snow diamonds.

    Actually I have two favourite seasons. The first is spring and the second is fall. Both are great walking weather seasons and I love walking. Winter – too cold and sometimes the summer is way too hot and humid. Thanks for the block and the chance to win the wonderful thread.

    I love summer, even when it’s a short 3 1/2 months like last year! Even though I’m a prairie girl, I love the water, so during the summer I can swim, sail, hike, and golf. Love that! I also love photography, so it’s a perfect time to take the camera out on walks and enjoy the vibrant colours!

    I just started piecing with Aurifil threads in the past few months, and have become a huge fan for all the reasons stated by others. I’ll be using up the Gutermann and Mettler and switching permanently to Aurifil!

    My favorite season has always been fall—I love the colors, the temps, the smells, the activities. BUT, now that I garden, I have to say spring/summer is also my favorite. I love planning in the winter, planting in the spring, caring for it in the summer and harvesting in the summer/fall. I love all the seasons! We just had a blizzard here in Ohio—3-4ft drifts out there—-I love winter!

    To me it has to be all four. Why? When it’s winter and cold you are longing for warmer weather. When spring has arrieved you long for the days when you can take a swim or walk barefooted in green grass. But somehow you start to long for some cooler days and fall comes along. After a while you are tired of dark, wet windy days and long for the first snow to brighten up your days again. Since I live in Norway, there’s no Christmas without snow. So you see, I just can’t pick just one season. I love them all 🙂

    My Birthday is January… I’m a winter girl… Luvin the cold and wind and snow. Blessed that I usually don’t drive in the mess. Grandkids know I’ll build a snowman with them and tromp around outside…. Their parents just bring-em over!

    I have been using aurifil thread for quite some time now and not only do I like them my machine loves them. (It doesn’t like some others). The colour range is excellent and for hand sewing it is wonderful. Thanks for the opportunity to win.     What do i like about aurifil thread…i will extol its virtues…so thin but SO strong…i sewed the binding on a queen quilt with it …no breaks…Its easy to thread because its so thin…easily zips thru the smallest eye of the needle…so many lucious colors to chose from…and then there is that CUTE Alex Veronelli…another reason to use Aurifil:> Awesome thread Awesome colors! Awesome Alex!!

    I love summer, because I enjoy the sun, heat, birds, plants, fresh fruits, sea and the beach, long days that I can sew up late, in short: the happy days that put a big smile on my face!

    I love spring when things get all green, but I have to say fall is my favorite because of all of the beautiful colors in the trees. I moved to Michigan from Los Angeles because I needed to have seasons again and Michigan falls never fail to amaze me.

    My favorite season is autumn. I love the cool brisk mornings and evenings, along with the mild days, the changing colors of the leaves on the trees, the many festivities and holidays. It is an exciting time of year for me, one that envigorates me and gets me going! Would love to win some of this thread! I’ve never tried it before and I do sew a lot.

    I love each of the 4 seasons for all their individual personality traits, but Fall is my ‘favorite child’. I have the fishing lake to myself, the colors are amazing, the creatures are fattening and furring up, the days are warm and the nights crisp, harvest is in and canned, dried, jammed…Yep! Love that Fall season!

    Spring of course!! After the “drabness” of winter, spring brings color back into the world!! It is starting now with some little green shoots popping up through the dirt. Soon there will be some flowers to go with them! Yeah!!

    Spring is definately my favorite…such a welcome relief from the deep freeze of winter, and not too hot yet…and the flowers are a bonus!

    I love spring, as I live in cornwall in the very south of the UK everything is bursting intoo bud the daffodills are out in the fields, the primroses are now in bloom, and also the pretty wild garlic ( which is good for cooking as well as being prett.
    I really love Aurofull threads they are just so adaptable, but not quite so easy to find in the Uk

    The colors of fall are my favorites. The hues of Autuimn make me feel warm and cozy. This is also the time of year that I look forward to beginning new quilting projects that will tide me over the oncoming winter.

    Spring is my favorite season. Everything is fresh and brand new. After the dead of winter, where I truly feel like the bears in hybernation, I need the smell of the spring flowers. I can go outside without it being so cold and enjoy nature the way God has intended. As I sit outside, I can just listen to the birds chirp, and think of all of God’s creation..
