Here’s part two of my update on The Robin Rowers. You can read part one from yesterday.
Stars Row
For the Stars row I sent to Isabell in the United Kingdom. I chose a pieced star made up of simple half-square triangles and squares.
Viviane from the Yukon sent me this lovely row of stars in blues, pinks and butterflies.
The 5.5″ square label that Viviane made for me.
Animals Row
Shiela from Australia and I were each other’s partners for the Animals row. I sent her a row of Chubby Chicks in various hand-dyed fabrics. The chicks were fused onto the background fabric and then machine appliqued.

I used a chick for the 5.5″ label too:
Here’s the absolutely gorgeous row that Shiela sent to me. I just love the mystical, friendly dragons and toadstools:

Food Row
I made the food row for Viviane. I choose 4 pieces of my own hand-dyed fabrics in yellow gradients to piece the background, then hand appliqued the cupcakes in bright, fun colours. I downloaded the Cupcake Applique then resized the shape as needed.
How many cupcakes do I need? Freezer papers:
I roughly pin the applique shapes in place, but then use a glue stick to adhere them to the background for stitching. Auditioning the layout:

Isabell sent me this gorgeous food row done in a mixture of applique and embroidery. My photos don’t do this row justice.

She also sent me this gorgeous embroidered card:
Whew that’s a lot of photos! Now can you see why I love this project so much. It’s been a fabulous experience and these quilting friends from far away are so very special to me. We have two rows left for this year, Trees and Hearts.
Here’s what my six rows look like together. From top to bottom, the one I did, Anita’s Flowers, Charlotte’s Houses, Viviane’s Stars, Sheila’s Animals and Isabell’s Food.
The five labels, I haven’t made mine yet.
You can see more of our group’s photos in the Robin Rower’s Flickr group. You’ll have to scroll to other pages, as I’ve been busy uploading photos to the group today.
These are all so awesome!
Absolutely stunning!
Wow, it’s so amazing…
Wow! What a great project, I may have to suggest this to our guild! All the rows are so unique and beautiful!
