A Bonding Moment A Bonding Moment
By: Barb R, British Columbia, Canada

I just love the peaceful feeling of this little art piece, created several years ago for a friend. It is appliqued, touched up with Tsukineko fabric inks, then thread painted (I wasn’t skilled enough to threadpaint the words around the border – they are done with permanent marker.)

A Mother Never Forgets A Mother Never Forgets
By: All Things Belle, Utah, USA

This was quite the emotional quilt for me. It is dedicated to the baby I lost a few months before I conceived Juliette.

I choose rough edge applique to symbolize my raw emotion. I free motion embroidered “A Mother Never Forgets” in between the blood lines that link me to the angel baby.

Around the blocks with Mother Around the blocks with Mother
By: Terre, Kansas, USA

This is a quilt that was presented to our Mother on her 70th birthday. It highlighted things we remember most about her. The presentation at the party detailed each block and its meaning behind it. Here are a few: directions, canning, sewing, God.

Bliss Between Friends Bliss Between Friends
By: Mary on Lake Pulaski, Minnesota, USA

After my Dad passed away last year, I discovered Mom and Dad were using a quilt on their bed (68 years of marriage) that I had made for Dad. So I had to brighten up Mom’s bedroom and make something just for her.

Life (Measures of Time) Life (Measures of Time)
By: Annabel Rainbow, United Kingdom

Life (Measures of Time) English patchwork over papers, applique, stitch and paint. My mother says this is her but it’s just a reflection of female life as we grow older. A slightly unusual interpretation of the title I admit!

Lullaby Lullaby
By: Lindy, Washington, USA

QA issued a challenge last year with a photo as inspiration. I had been reading up and wanting to try thread painting so I ‘went for it’. Swan thread painted on wool felt, then appliqued on silk scarf and batiks. My mother loved this mother swan piece so much she now has it on display in her home.

My Daughters Garden My Daughters Garden
By: Bev Remillard, California, USA

I treasure every memory of my children and this quilt honors my daughter. I made this simple 4 x 9 patch with pieces of my daughters dresses, dolls, etc. I set the blocks on a sweet floral background to bring out all the colors.

Northwest Family Northwest Family
By: Lizze, Washington, USA

My mom lives on the Puget Sound and loves Seattle. The blocks are from the Western WA. Shop Hop a few years back, featuring scenes from the state. I knew I would make it for her, but added the Mother and baby whale and Mt. Ranier to personalize it. I gave it to her for Mother’s Day.

Yellow Lady Slippers Yellow Lady Slippers
By: Dinah Tackett, New Mexico, USA

I made this for my Mother a couple of years ago for Christmas. It is one of my early Art quits. I used Yellow Ladyslipper for the design because she loves them (actually any yellow flowers). The flowers are a combination of Batik, sheer fabric and silk ribbon. It is machine quilted.

It was really hard to choose just one. I wanted to vote for several of these beautiful works of art! The number of mixed media pieces was phenominal!

The “Measure of Time” is an outstanding piece of art. There are other wonderful quilts in this weeks exhibition, but that one strikes a major cord with me.
