Born on the 5th of July By: Sandi, Minnesota, USA
I began this piece in 2006 in patriotic colors for my son, born July 5, 1976. I only worked on it when I met with my “Tuesday Crazies” friends. I was determined to finish by Election Day, 2008, and I did. I embroidered Obama’s name that night but if McCain had won, his name would be on the piece.

Crazy Pieced Quilt By: Diane B, Florida, USA
I used all my left over orphan blocks cut them up and pieced with strips and squares to make this quilt. It was made during a difficult time in my life and was good therapy for me. This is my version of a crazy quilt as at the time, I thought I was going crazy.

I made this jacket from all kinds of blue colours. I love to wear it. This is the way I could assemble my own fabric. It is sewn with several stitches.

Schoonover’s Heirloom Quilt By: Cheryl Hartzog, Florida, USA
I wanted a crazy quilt at Mom’s to drape over the sofa, so we all started some 8″ blocks a few years ago. Mom & I ended up doing most of the handwork, emboridery and ribbon work, we finished it and entered it in a quilt show, we won 1st place, that show was based on crazy quilts.

She’s Crazy in the Attic By: Kathy, Virginia, USA
In the process of making a apple core quilt, I had these little pieces I couldn’t stand to throw away. I pieced them on 4 inch fabric backing. I then placed them in Attic windows. To make them stand out more I used black piping around each block. It is quilted by machine.

I was struck this morning, while reading the quilts’ stories, that half of this show and tell is the quilt and half the story of lives. What a connection this contest makes between quilters. I loved the setting ideas on several, esp., the desire to try quilt as you go. Thank you all for sharing. You are precious.
Unfortunately I missed this contest. Can’t wait for the next theme…Pets, great idea
