It was fun to challenge myself and see how small I could go. The smallest piece is a 1/8 inch triangle in the heart block.

My favorite batting is Warm and Natural in bamboo – it is amazing and so, so soft!!!

My favorite batting is the one I can get on sale for 50% off! Seriously, I am ashamed to say I don’t buy just one certain brand but do prefer cotton blends for ‘bed’ quilts and fusible for art quilts. I truly do buy what is on sale when I need to get batting. I am lucky that we have quite a few stores that sell battings of several different brands.

My favorite betting is Warm and Natural, not that I’ve tried too many battings. Once I used this I was happy and haven’t used anything else.

  15. Ms Lottie Avatar

I use cotton batting – usually warm and natural because that’s what my guild sell and they get it for a quantity discount. I only machine quilt (I’m sure I’d never finish anything if I tried to hand quilt!). I have used polyester for a bit more puff on wall hangings – but I don’t use it on things that will get washed because I’ve had bearding issues.

I mostly machine quilt and mainly use Hobbs 80/20. I am hand quilting a large quilt using 100% wool and it is so easy to stitch. Have yet to try a wool batt with the machine.

I live in the Middle East so batting is unbranded and you have to go searching for it and buy lots when you find it. I’ve got a compressed type of 100% cotton used by the curtain shop for padding the valance over curtains. Once I found 100% cotton that I save and use for my favourite quilts. At a craft shop I can usually fine the non-cotton batting which makes a quilt dry well and feel cuddly.

My gosh, it was hard to choose just four!!! They are all beautiful, and there were so many that were just outstanding & magnificent!

My fave batting is Warm & Natural, but I scored a really good deal on Hobbs 80/20, so I can’t wait to bust that puppy open and use it too. My long-armer used that in my first quilt, and I love it, so I’m sure I’ll be pleased with my next one too!

  43. Mary Spriet Avatar
    Mary Spriet

I love the “Dream” batting. And have also just started using “Legacy”. Doesn’t give that crease when the quilt is folded up. Both are very nice to me.

  44. Mary Avatar

I really like Hobbs 80/20 for larger quilts with a lot of detail, it drapes really well and isn’t too heavy.

I use quite a lot of Dream Puff or other synthetics – and I usually end up hand quilting because I’m scared of ruining my lovely patchwork by squidging it through the machine! (I’m lazy – I never tack the layers together, just use lots of pins!)

    Warm and Natural for quilts.

I use 2 favorite battings for all my machine quilting. I use high loft Mountain Mist for bed quilts – I like my quilts soft & cushy. For wallhangings I always use Warm & Natural cotton batting – the heavier weight of it helps the wall quilts hang just right.

I really haven’t found a batting I don’t like. Depending, I use wool, bamboo, polyester and cotton and I really haven’t seem a lot of difference in how they quilt. Wait, I did try to use an unbonded, polyester, high loft someone brought for me to use. Still good for tieing a quilt but disaster for machine quilting. I won’t do that again! Thanks. Those are gorgeous gems.

I’m not too fussy about brands but here in Australia I use one called Sew Easy (I think!) when I want cotton or a cotton/bamboo blend which I use for machine quilting. If I’m hand quilting I use a high loft wadding such as a wool but don’t have a particular brand for it.

  92. Debbie Avatar

Over the years, I’ve mostly used the Hobb’s Heirloom 80/20, for machine quilting.

  93. Mirjam Avatar

I love the “trouvez le coer”. Beautiful colors!

  94. Julie Fukuda Avatar

I am a hand piecer so it was fun to see the variety of paper-pieced quilts, even if I would never make any. As for batting, I love “thinsulate” made by 3M. I think it is intended for clothing and I can buy it on the roll in assorted lofts. I like it because it has a tacky feeling and does not need a whole lot of basting, and stays put while hand quilting, Even the thinnest has a nice high loft. My sister living in the stated can.t seem to buy it there which is strange. Japanese battings come in sealed plastic so there is no way to know what you are buying until you take it home and open the package. The only thing you know is the size … in centimeters of course.

  95. Carol Avatar

I almost always use Warm & Natural. I’ve used polyester some but don’t care too much for it. Warm & Natural is easier to work with. I do only machine quilting. All of this week’s quilts were wonderful. It was hard to choose only 4.

Sorry, I don’t know the brand name but it’s a fusible from my LQS. They also have a none fusible that is mostly poly that I like for baby blankets since they get washed so much.

I use Hobbs Tuscany wool for machine quilting. Soft and lightweight. Drapes beautifully. Quilting really shows up….

I’ve been using the “warm” battings (natural, white & black). I love the 100% cotton but I’m looking to try wool!

I like Warm & Natural or Warm & White for my machine quilting. Haven’t done any hand quilting before.

I like the thinner, natural fiber ones (so far) – I’ve not quilted long enough to have settled on a particular brand yet. ๐Ÿ™‚

The batting I’ve used most frequently is the Hobbs brand- the Hobbs Natural Cotton as well as the Hobbs Polydown.
Both are great for machine quilting.

I like to use The Warm Company Warm and White or Warm and Natural for machine quilting. I like the feel of the finished quilts for both traditional cotton quilts and also for T-shirt quilts.

I use hobbs cotton 80/20 for most quilts I machine quilt and it works very well for me I have some wool from hobs but haven’t got the courage up to use it yet.

I most often use Quilters Dream Request, either the cotton or the poly. I quilt everything by hand. They quilt up beautifully, and the cotton has minimal shrinkage, which I prefer.

Warm and Natural is such a nice fabric to work with when machine quilting! But Hobbs 80/20 is great for showing off the stitching so its a toss up!

I really enjoy using “soft and bright” batting made by the warm company…its affordable and I love the feel and weight of it.

I only use Winline 100% Bamboo….. it is soft, comfy, nonallergic, anti-bacterial and gorgeously green. Feels similar to a silk batt at an affordable price. I always machine quilt.

I don’t have a favorite batting. I’ve always used what I could find in a small town. That means if Walmart doesn’t have it, I haven’t used it. LOL. I always machine quilt on my simple little Brother machine.

I use morning glory polyester lowloft. My machine won’t sew anything very thick and this works well and easy to get. ๐Ÿ™‚
