This is a home that we lived in for 2 years while stationed at the Pentagon. Tons of different embellishing techniques were used for the flowers, trees, bushes. If you look closely you may see an owl and a cat. I do a quilt or a needlepoint of all our homes. I call it textile architecture.

This quilt was made for a guild challenge, it had to have “pairs” of anything included in the quilt. The two quilts hanging over the balcony are actual Opportunity quilts made by our guild in years past. My best friend Alice who is 80 years old, is seen shopping here. Made with Sue Pritts patterns.

Community Community
By: Valerie,

I took a class from Freddy Moran. The houses were fun, but I couldn’t help thinking that something was missing – cars, people, animals – all the stuff you see every day, on every street. Just for good measure, I added a few things you seldom see or don’t want to see – like a house on fire.

Farmer's Window Farmer’s Window
By: Donna,
Michigan, USA

I needed to cover an electrical panel in the guest bedroom of our farmhouse. I found a photo of a stained glass window online, with a similar scene, and designed the scene to be seen through a window using Attic Window blocks. I added the rusty pickup, because I always see them in farmyards.

Furever Homes Furever Homes
By: Pam,
Georgia, USA

Furever Homes was part of a sampler program by my LQS. On each house block I appliqued a small orange cat, and I sold the quilt to benefit the Good Mews Animal Foundation. Made of batiks, the quilt features regular houses and some buildings on the wrong side of the tracks, like a used car lot.

Home in the Woods Home in the Woods
By: Ann Woods,
Texas, USA

The house blocks were UFO blocks from a Round Robin that went unused so I designed this quilt to give those blocks a home. The flying geese blocks represent geese flying south for the winter. The sun is paper pieced and this was my first attempt at free motion quilting on a domestic sewing machine.

House Plants & Sea Grass House Plants & Sea Grass
By: Barbie in NC,
North Carolina, USA

I love the colorful houses along the Carolina coast and wanted to quilt some, however the more I thought about it the more I kept coming up with “play on words” so the houses have pleated floral siding and the seagrass is made of swimming sea turtles. It was fun to make and a real break from my norm

By: Maya,
California, USA

This quilt was made for a winter themed mini-quilt swap. It is based on the “All Snowed In” quilt in the Dec 2009 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting. Not being very fond of following patterns faithfully, I scaled it down and paper pieced the houses and trees.

Lake Why Not Lake Why Not
By: Buckets Gone Wild!,
Arkansas, USA

A beautiful fall day at the Lake House of one of the lunch bunch “Why Nots” inspired this quilt. A weekly meeting of three women 15 years ago evolved into a larger monthy meeting. Our name, Why Nots, signifies our feelings about wearing hats, bright colors and generally not acting our ages.

The block design is available in my Third Street pattern.

Wonky Houses Wonky Houses
By: Jenny of Elefantz,
Australia

This was my first original design, and a sentimental favourite. My grandfather called anything ‘off centre’ a wonky, so I drew and stitched a set of four wonky houses and made them into a wall quilt.
This design has always been dedicated to him.
