Conversation Pieces in Red Conversation Pieces in Red

Conversation Pieces pattern by The Caffeinated Quilter – Emily Breclaw. I love her original colors but not for my kitchen. I LOVE it in red! I enjoy the portability of EPP! I pieced and finished during my kids’ gym practice. It is my 2nd attempt at machine quilting.

This dresden pattern is by Vicki at Quilting Lodge blog. She was gracious enough to give the pattern away on her blog during the Dare to Dresden blog hop. Our guild challenge was for a small quilt with the theme Rhapsody in Bloom, so I changed it into a flower by adding the stem and leaf.

This quilt was hand pieced by my great-aunt after getting her hand cut in a buzz saw. It was not straight, so I tore it all apart and put it back together and hand quilted it.

Liberty of London fabric swatches 4″ square were sent as a gift from an English quilting penpal and I had no idea what to do with them until I saw this design in an old quilting magazine. The gold fabric was purchased in Florida and it worked perfectly with the multi-coloured hexagons.

I came across English Paper Piecing at a Quilt Show some years ago. Seduced by the fabric, I bought a bag each of these tiny squares and hexagons, however the project became an UFO in due course after the first few rows. Last year I dragged it out again and completed it. So worth it in the end.

I have been working on a pieced Hexagon quilt top during the winter months in the evenings for the past two years! Yikes! BB # 3725 (“Sam’s Quilt”) in scrap-happy shades of blue and green. This top is a WIP for the family room as Sam is a family name ;)

Full disclaimer: I tried out EPP but impatience got the best of me and most was done by machine. This block really is an ideal EPP project though!

By: Delia Hardcastle,

Spring Flower Hexagons is entirely hand stitched. I’ve been saving fabric scraps from my quilting for the past year and was looking for something to do with them when I discovered and fell in love with the ancient craft of English Paper Piecing. Each of the hexagons is 1.5 inches across.

There’s one lonely snail hiding in the hand-embroidered border (visit my blog for a close-up look and see if you can find the snail). My Mom is always killing the snails & I rescue them by hiding them in her flower beds! The hexagons are 5/8″; I developed a techique to make the stars & whirligigs.

I have not done any EPP yet, but really want to try it sometime. I’m making a hexie quilt right now sewing it the traditional way. I love the watermelon table runner!

I have tried the english paper piecing, started to the grandmother flower garden…my tip would be to hand stitch all, was brutal trying to piece it together by maching… I put that aside for many years, have to take apart to correctly do it by hand :)

I’ve never done EPP because I know nothing about it. I’m relatively new to quilting and am just happy to be able to achieve nice things on small quilts. It certainly looks intriguing though and I like learning new stuff :-)

I love EPP! It is a great to go progect. Since I spend a lot of time runing to different. Doctor appointments due to my health condition I always have a bagready to go in my sewing tote that goes with me everywhere. At the young age of 36 I was informed that my carrer as a respiratory therapist was over. Never have sewn on a sewing machine before somethIng just told me to buy one and join a quiltinf class well as you can image it was a devastating experience for me for a few weeks but I hung in there and things became much better for me. The EPP technique was our groups first challenge since we were all new to quilting we all just looked at these hextagons and really wondered how we were to make somerhing out of thwse pices. With me I would rather sew by hand any day od the week than use my machine. It has been awesomw therapy for me. So I set out to just challenge done andby my surprise I was the only on to finish the challenge. Now I always have flower pieces ready to go by my chair and in my bag. Ive tried every method I have found on EPP and my favorite is using wax paper since it keeps tje hexagos retain there shape very well. I actually have made a hextagon 1/4″ used them in a min quilt I entered in our local quilt show didnt win a ribbon but was 1 point from a perfect score. I cherish that progect just as all of you will as you learn this fabulous. EPP technique it is very rewarding in the end to actually see a finished proget you made with your hands. You all can do this! I have a lot of faith I know tjat if I can learn to do this anyone can!!! Good luck to all of you on your adventure with your EPP. It would be awesome to win this table runner when I look at a quilting project someone else has made I think to myself I wonder what stories about this person this project could tell if it couldtalk. Thats the amazing art of quilting ecery project does have secret stories hidden in every stitch and seam about what our minds where thinking at the time we were making our project. It rwally just amazes me how people put a lot of prayers and conversatikn into completing a quilt. Thanks to all for allowing me to post my commet. God Bless to all. MICHE LLE
