Happy National Quilting Day 2009

home-nqa

The National Quilting Association is devoting this year to the Home. They have created a free project, Welcome Home, to honour National Quilting Day.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day filled with lots of quilting.

I will be celebrating in spirit this year. Instead of quilting I’ll be playing dolls, colouring or baking a cake (?) with my 3 year old niece, making funny faces at my 4 month old niece and celebrating my “baby sister’s” 30th birthday. Where did the years go, I have no idea. Happy Birthday (tomorrow) lil sis!

See last year’s NQA block.

Update from Lucy:

“You’re going to see Auntie Schell tomorrow.”
“Yay! I so excited to see my Auntie Schell.”
*pause*
“Auntie Schell is a good girl.”

Good to know I’m a good girl! haha

National Quilting Day – March 15, 2008

2008-national-quilt-day.jpg

Today is National Quilting Day.

The National Quilting Association began sponsoring National Quilting Day with a resolution passed by members attending the 22nd Annual Show in Lincoln, Nebraska, in June 1991. The third Saturday in March is officially designated as National Quilting Day, but quilters are flexible and we love a celebration – especially when fabric is involved – so over the years, observance of National Quilting Day has unofficially been expanded to the whole month of March!

The NQD logo for 2008 is the Eight Hands Around block – symbolizing the long tradition of friends joining together to share their love of quilting.

Here’s a free pattern to make a 40″ square Eight Hands Around baby quilt in PDF format. It’s so pretty, I think it could be made for anyone, not just as a baby quilt.
