Fall-Inspired Mini Quilts

Here’s the fall mini quilt I sent to my partner Chris in Alabama.

The fabrics: a gorgeous leaf print, that was in my stash, sadly without selvedge so I’m not sure where it came from. The three coordinating fabrics are from Ricky Tims’ Rhapsodie ColorĂ©e III line.

The 1/2 square triangles finished at 1.5″. They were pieced using Brenda Henning’s Triangulations CD. I love this CD, makes 1/2 square and 1/4 square triangles in various sizes… so accurate!

I quilted in the ditch around each seam and echoed straight lines in the outer border.

Here’s the gorgeous mini quilt I received from Rebecca in Australia.

Here’s a mini magic tiles quilt with batiks that will be used as an angel quilt. Magic tiles is a pattern by Kathleen Bissett. To complete the pattern correctly you would start with 12 fabrics and end up with 12 blocks. I did this one as a test, to see if 9 fabrics would work too (it didn’t, but I still like it). My starting blocks were 6″ square.

Fall-Inspired Mini Quilt Swap

I want to thank everyone that voted and left comments or sent emails on the swap admin post from a couple of weeks. I read all comments, and have debated how to proceed. For now, things will remain as they have been for the prior swaps, with a few changes.

For the Fall swap, I’ve decided not to have a mandatory administrative fee. I understand times are tough, for me too! I’d rather see my quilting friends having fun participating in the swap. Quilting is a great stress reliever for me (most of the time) and I value the quilting friendships formed as a result of the swaps. Of course, donations would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve also changed my mind about adding the quilter’s experience question. It has not been added for the Fall swap, but may be added in the future. However, I have added some additional requirements for the swap. Specifically, the mini quilt must be bound, no pillow turning and no zig-zagged edges. It must be made of good-quality fabrics. It should also be washable, unless you speak to your partner first and they are fine with it not being washable. Follow the theme of the swap, i.e. the Fall swap should represent fall, autumn, harvest, halloween, etc. in some way.

I will be adding a Swap FAQ page later this week. To cut down on the administration, here are some things everyone can do to help.

  • Slow down and carefully enter all information on the swap registration form. Double check it, especially your email address, before submitting.
  • When you receive your partner’s information, save the email to your hard drive in a safe place. Resending partner information several times is time-consuming.
  • If you have a question about the swap, please post it on the Flickr group. Members are very helpful there, and I do check in at least once a day too.
  • When you email me about the swap, include the name of the swap you are emailing about, as well as your full name, and if applicable your partner’s full name. I get several emails with just first names or nicknames, sent from unknown email addresses.
  • Plan your time accordingly and mail your swap by the deadline.
  • I approve registrations once a day, in the morning, and sometimes not on the weekend. Please be patient, your registration will be reviewed quickly.
