Swap: Appliqué Coasters

Swap Guidelines

Applique Coasters Swap

Please note: The registration for this swap is different than previous swaps I have organized. See “How the Swap Works” below.

For this swap, you will be making FOUR reversible appliqué coasters to send to your partner. The Little Buddy coasters have been designed by Vicki Ruebel from the Quilting Lodge exclusively for this swap.

The backs of the coasters are pieced and the tutorial that Vicki’s created includes several design ideas that you can use for the back. The four coasters that you send to your partner must include all four appliqué designs. The coasters finish at 5″ squared.

Registration for this swap closes July 24th. Partner information will be sent by July 26th. The deadline to mail your four coasters is August 27th for international shipments (including Canada/USA) and September 3rd for domestic shipments. All coasters should arrive at their destination no later than September 30th.

Everyone can join! The swap is open to participants living anywhere in the world. However, if you are sending from South America, the Middle East or Africa, please send your package a week or two earlier than the dates indicated so that it arrives on time.

You can post pictures of your progress on your blog and in the Flickr group.

Gifts: You are not required to send any additional gifts to your swap partner. You may do so if you wish, but keep in mind they may not send you any additional goodies. Also note, some countries do not allow certain food and plant materials to be imported. Do not ship candles.

How the Swap Works

Here’s how the swap works …

  1. You register (now closed) and pay the fee for the swap before July 24th.
  2. Once your PayPal payment has been processed, the patterns and detailed tutorial are sent automatically to your email for you to download.
  3. Your partner’s name and email address will be sent by July 26th. Partners are matched based on the experience level and shipping preferences you’ve indicated in your registration.
  4. You communicate with your partner, introduce yourself, send her/him your mailing address, a link to your blog, etc. and any preferences you might have for the swap.
  5. Mail your four coasters to your partner by August 27th (international) or September 3rd (domestic).
  6. Email your partner when you’ve sent letting her/him know the coasters are on the way.
  7. When the coasters arrive from your partner, email her/him to say they’ve arrived safely.

By joining this swap, you are agreeing to the above deadline commitments and to communicate directly with the partner that is assigned to you. It is YOUR responsibility to email your partner. You’re making a NEW friend, so be friendly and communicate.

As the administrator for this swap, my role ends once the partners have been assigned. It’s up to each participant to be a good swapper and communicate with their new quilting friend.

The spirit of this swap is to make a new friend and send them the four coasters that you’ve made to the best of your ability. If you have no intention of living up to your commitments, we’d all appreciate it if you did not register for the swap at all.

Registration Fee

To participate in this swap, the registration fee is $5.00 USD. Half of this fee goes to Vicki as the designer of the patterns and tutorial.

Once you’ve completed the registration form you can then pay the registration fee through PayPal. Please be sure to register for the swap first, before paying the fee. The patterns and detailed tutorial will be sent to you via email once your payment has been processed.

Note: Quilters that have been a swap angel for me in the past or a swap designer are not required to pay the registration fee. Please remind me in the registration notes.

If you don’t have a PayPal account…

PayPal accepts all major credit cards and in many countries you can also add your own bank account.

For the past two swaps, I have been ripped off by 17 participants who said they’d be paying me with a fat quarter and have not bothered to send it nor answer my emails. Please note that I still paid the designers for the exact number of participants, so this was money out of my own pocket.

Based on previous experiences, I will ONLY be accepting fat quarters as a payment option if you have successfully completed previous swaps with me AND sent me the fat quarter for those swaps. If you will be using this option, fill out the registration form (now closed), then send me a separate email for further details.
