Welcome to the NEW Quilter’s Forum launched January 31, 2010. There will be some growing pains as all the kinks are worked out. I will be adding to this help page over the coming weeks.

Forum Registration

You must register and be logged in to participate in the Quilter’s Forum. If you are having problems registering, please email me.

Before you begin, please make sure my email address, michele@quiltinggallery.com, has been entered into your safe/approved list to receive emails. You will need to be able to receive the confirmation email to register.

Click here to register for the forums. On the registration screen, enter a Username (cannot be changed), a valid email address and answer the simple math question. Click Register.

You will then be redirected to the login screen. But WAIT. You need to check your email for the password assigned to you (within minutes). Once you have that password, you can login using the username you created above and the password sent to you.

Once logged in, it is strongly recommended that you change the password. To do so, click the Profile button on the navigation screen at the top of the Forum. (Note: you’ll only see this button if you are logged in.)

From the Profile screen, choose Change Password. You can also modify your personal information as you like on the various screens. Note: profiles are only viewable by logged in users; guests cannot view your profile.

How to Upload Images

Many thanks to Delphi-7 for the first version of these instructions.

Please note: The maximum size of image you can upload is 350 Kb. This means, images taken from most digital cameras will need to be resized before you can upload them. While I use Photoshop for my business, I also really like FastStone software to quickly edit images for use on the web. Either the viewer or photo resizer will work. Always make a copy of your original photo, as resizing it will drastically reduce the quality.

There isn’t a maximum width or height set, as all images uploaded will be shrunk to fit within the site, and then clickable to view the larger version of the image. However, I would recommend at a maximum 800px otherwise anything bigger may cause a problem for some viewers.

The following instructions and photos walk you through how to upload images to the Quilting Gallery server and insert them into forum posts.

Click the appropriate button to either “Post New Topic” or “Post Reply”.

Click the Tree Icon.

The next little window that opens is titled Insert/Edit Image. Click the Camera image to the right of the field named “Image URL”. (If you already have your file uploaded somewhere else, like Flickr then you can enter the URL of the image, in this field instead. See How to Insert Images from Elsewhere, below for more info.)

The next window that opens is titled Simple:Press File Manager: Browse. This shows the current images you have uploaded. To upload new images, click the Upload tab.

On the next screen, choose the Browse button to find files on your computer to upload. You can select many files to upload at one time.

Each file you select will appear on this screen. Once all files have been selected, choose the Upload button in the bottom right.

Once your files have been uploaded successfully, select the Browse tab button in the top left.

Now you will see all of your uploaded files. Select the file you want with your mouse.

You’ll then be returned to the original insert image menu. The file you selected will now appear in the Image URL. You don’t need to change any other options on the screen, just select Insert.

Don’t worry if the images look TOO BIG in the editor screen. Just separate each image with a hard return (i.e. Enter key) and they’ll be formatted correctly once you hit save.

How to Insert Images from Elsewhere

You do not need to upload your images to the Quilting Gallery server if you already have them posted elsewhere. To add them to forum posts follow the instructions below.

Click the appropriate button to either ‘Post New Topic” or ‘Post Reply”.

Click the Tree Icon.

The next little window that opens is titled Insert/Edit Image. Enter the Image URL in the appropriate field and click Insert. You do not need to enter any of the other information.

input-image

To get the Image URL, you need to click an existing image with your mouse using the RIGHT button. Then, depending on your software program choose one of the following:

In Safari, select Copy Image Address. This puts the address in memory. In the Image URL file, just select Paste (Ctrl-V) to insert the address.

In Internet Explorer, select Properties. Then on the next screen highlight the Image URL, copy it (Ctrl-C), then select Paste (Ctrl-V) to insert the address.
