I needed a quilt for a package I was designing for one of my quilt frame products. I have never quilted before, but designed it and went to work. It a wall hanging 44"x10". It is made of nearly one hundred pieces of fabric, some as small as 1/4 of an inch. I really enjoyed doing the quilt.

I designed this quilt, using actual dogwood tree flowers to make patterns. Some of the green patchwork fabrics are hand-dyed or hand-painted, and include silks. Techniques include cutaway trapunto, color trapunto, tinting with inks and colored pencils, beading, and crystals.

My quilt group had a challenge about 3 years ago - make a small quilt on the theme of spring, without using green or yellow - this was my design.

It measures approx 24" square. The blossoms are gathered organza ribbons and the centres are sequins. This was my own design.

It was made by a variety of techniques including painting, applique, beading, faux trapunto and free machine embroidery and then quilted.
It is approximately a metre square.

I chose the colors for this quilt based on the black fabric used to make the dancing stars. This quilt is heavily quilted and hangs in my breakfast nook. I espcially love the rainbow border and pieced binding. I hope you do too!

My friend Norma gave me a great photo. I loved the motion of the waves, the sky, and the reflection of the sun off the wet sand at the water's edge. The challenge of rendering this scene in fabric called me. I searched for weeks for fabrics to bring it to life. It's all done with fabric and notions.

I keep scraps to try things out on in my dye studio and the main fabric was one of those 'rags'. I drew the birds from life into a journal and transfered them to the whole cloth quilt top using tracing paper and machine drawn line. Embroidery and beading finished the piece off nicely.

This quilt was based on a picture taken during a vacation to the boundary waters in Minnesota. Quilted Photo Xpress from Mosaic Quilts was used to create the pattern from the photograph. The quilt is raw edge machine appliquéd and machine quilted.

Quilt designed by Nancy Lee Chong. I wanted maximum contrast and the challenge required use of purple, I looked for a color that would 'shine' against the purple. Batiks used have a mum motif. To top it off, I used Superior Threads Highlights thread in a day glow green. It makes the flower POP!

I added the birdhouse, morning glories and the hummingbird. Then thought to add the other birds and their feeders. I added my dog Suede barking at the squirrel which woke up the raccoon in the tree. 23"x26"

My brother and his wife stay in Pringle Bay, an hour outside of Cape Town. There are different troops of baboons living in the mountains around Pringle Bay. While visiting I took pictures of the baboons playing in the trees outside their house. That was my inspiration for this quilt.

Onto a piece of organza I printed a photograph of seagulls flying over the sea and laid that onto a background of sky and sea. I then appliquéd a little Victorian boy holding his yacht standing by the edge of the sea watching...

The background fabric I hand dyed and it reminded me of a stormy sky. The waves are fussy cut from commercial fabric. The pelican is from a photo taken on holiday and is colored with pencil and then set with a fabric medium. The whole quilt is covered with netting and then machine quilted.

I love the combination of traditional and modern elements in quilts. So the back is traditional pieced and the sunflowers mid is made with tyvek, lutradur, fabric and Valdani yarn. The petals are 3 dimensional sewed. Sunflowers are beauties!

This is Swimmy the little black fish from the child's book. The story is my favorite. I was 5 years old - well near 6 - I sewed this quilt with a bit help from my mom. We stamped all the fishes and worked in small parts. The quilt is 35 to 35 inch and I´m a boy!

Desmond is a baby dragon who had been unwell, Mummy sent for the doc and he put cream on the sore bumps on Desmonds back. Next morning his back felt funny and his Mummy told him to look in the mirror - he had wings!
