Quilting Gallery Newsletter – Issue #4 – September 2008

Welcome to the fourth issue of the Quilting Gallery Newsletter.

August was a very busy and exciting month for me. I drove almost 4,000 kilometres and visited eight states (New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland) on my trip to the Nashville AQS show. I bought enough fabric to last me this lifetime and several great tools and patterns too. I met such wonderful people at the show and throughout my travels. I was even able to catch up with an old friend in Pennsylvania. I will get some photos posted to the web site very soon.

August also saw the launch of the latest addition to the Quilting Gallery web site, the Quilt Shop Locator, now accepting shop listings at 50% off our regular prices. Read more below.

I hope you will enjoy this edition of the Quilting Gallery Newsletter. It’s jam packed with lots of goodies, great sites to visit and some funny humour at the end.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, I want to hear from you! Send me an email at michele@quiltinggallery.com and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Happy Quilting!

Wonky Butterfly Tutorial

While the month of August didn’t see the usual number of posts on the web site, here are two great ones:

  • Here’s a fabulous Wonky Butterfly Tutorial from Lynne. Great way to use up scraps.
  • Lenna from the Stitching Cow has written a couple of really good posts on Hand Quilting. After reading her many tips, even I feel confident to try hand quilting again.

Around the Web

Two great places worth visiting:

  • MQResource is a community of machine quilters, open to anyone who quilts, loves quilts, or knows someone who quilts. Their forums are very active, and are divided up into a multitude of topics.
  • Free quilt tags are available for you to download and print. They are best suited for printing on fabric and/or printing on transfer paper, then being pressed onto your fabric and stitched to the back of your quilt. There’s a new tag sheet released each week.

Chuckle Time

Robbery

George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he’d left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window.

George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house," and he said "no." Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available.

George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again. "Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don’t have to worry about them now because I just shot them." Then he hung up.

Within five minutes six police cars, a SWAT Team, a helicopter, two fire trucks, a paramedic and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips’ residence and caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you’d shot them!"

George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"
