Quilting Gallery Newsletter – Issue #19 – January 2010
|
Welcome to the latest issue of the Quilting Gallery Newsletter. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and managed to get their holiday gifts done on time. Here’s what I made. Thanks to everyone that responded to my request for ideas and suggestions for the Quilting Gallery site. There are so many fabulous ideas. Some of which have been implemented already, and there’s more to come soon. By far, the most requested item is a quilter’s forum. I’ll be adding this to the site, hopefully next week. I’m still evaluating software options to meet our needs. I’m super excited to announce that Lenna Green from the Stitching Cow has agreed to be an expert columnist on the Quilting Gallery site. She’s been stitching since she was a child, and brings a tremendous amount of experience and creative talent. She’ll publish a weekly post answering your questions or teaching a new technique. Have quilting, stitching or sewing questions or ideas for things you’d like to learn? We’d love to hear them. There’s more excitement below with the new weekly virtual quilt contests, winter time mini quilt swap, guest bloggers and a one-to-one exchange to help me with my postage stamp quilt. Read on for all the details. Happy quilting! Michele (aka Mishka) Weekly Themed Quilt ContestsWhat better way to start off the new year than with a new weekly virtual quilt contest. Join the fun, show off your wonderful creations and be inspired by what your quilting friends have made. Each Monday a new theme will be announced and you can upload a photo along with a short story of a quilt you’ve created that represents the theme in some way. Hopefully, there will even be weekly prizes donated by generous sponsors in the quilting industry. Each weekend, visitors to the Quilting Gallery site can vote for their favourite quilt. This week’s theme is Winter Fun; but hurry you only have until the end of today (Thursday) to enter. Voting will start tomorrow morning. Next week’s theme will be Two-Coloured Quilts; I can’t wait to see these beauties. See all the weekly themes. Check out the previous contests and sponsors: Contact me if you’d like to be a weekly sponsor. It’s a fabulous opportunity for you to advertise your unique quilting products or your shop directly to quilters looking for new ideas. Quilter’s CookbookThank you to everyone that has purchased the Quilter’s Cookbook. I really appreciate your support. Check out some of the comments I’ve received. The Cookbook includes 119 mouth-watering recipes, 76 gorgeous quilts and heart-warming stories from more than 100 quilters in nine countries. The recipes are quick and easy, because we all want to get back to quilting. It’s an electronic document with 144 colour pages. You can download and start cooking right away. Purchase the Quilter’s Cookbook More News from the Quilting GalleryWinter Time Mini Quilt Swap Registration is now available for the Winter Time Mini Quilt Swap. Hurry, registration closes January 31st. Mail date is March 1st (overseas) or March 8th (domestic). Join today! Postage Stamp Quilt I’ve always wanted to make a Postage Stamp Quilt. I need 1,380 2" squares. I’ve limited myself to a maximum of four of any one print, which means I need 345 different fabrics. Would you like to do an exchange? This is a one-to-one swap only. You send me fabrics and I’ll send you back 2" or 5" squares too. I’ve received three lovely squishy packages this week; it’s very exciting. Guest Bloggers In last month’s anniversary blog post one of the most requested features is more guest bloggers. I totally agree. For 2010, I’d like to feature one guest blogger a week. If you’d like to be a guest, first, read this Want to be a Guest Blogger? post, then drop me an email to discuss. Quilting Bloggers Directory The Quilting Bloggers Directory hit two new milestones this week: more than 3,700 blogs listed from 68 countries.
