This issue is jam-packed with wonderful things: a Quilter’s Cookbook, a special for joining the Quilt Shop Locator, the Holiday Traditions Quilt Contest, some Christmas inspiration and finally a fabulous idea for using your scraps.

I’ll keep this introduction short and let you get right to the good stuff below. There’s a quilt calling my name waiting to be stitched in the other room.

Quilter’s Cookbook

Recipes Wanted!

Quilter's Cookbook

I’m organizing the first-ever Quilter’s Cookbook with recipes from quilters around the world. Everyone is welcome to submit a recipe, a photo of their favourite quilt and a story for inclusion in the Cookbook. It will be available for sale as a downloadable PDF file in early December 2009.

The theme for this Cookbook is "Quick and easy recipes, so we can get back to quilting!". Recipes can be submitted in the following categories: Appetizers and Snacks, Soups and Salads, Main Dishes, Side Dishes, Quilter’s Sweet Treats (Desserts), Breads, Muffins, Scones, etc., Beverages and Other Goodies

Advertisers Wanted!

Advertising in the Quilter’s Cookbook is a fabulous opportunity to market yourself and/or to feature specific products (i.e. books, notions, fabrics, etc.) directly to the quilting community. There are two ad sizes available: business card size and half-page ads. Ads will be clickable in the PDF file linking to your web site. Book your ad early, as space is limited.

The recipe submission deadline is November 28, 2009. The advertisers’ deadline is November 26, 2009.

A Scrappy Idea

Daniel and Slade

Here’s a great way to throw your scraps out without feeling guilty. Using an old pillowcase line a garbage bin with it. While you are sewing throw your scraps of fabric into the pillowcase. When the pillowcase is 2/3′s full, sew the pillow case shut and take it down to your local animal shelter. They make great beds for the cats and dogs. They are 100% washable and nice and soft for the animals!

I also have my students bring a pillow case to all my classes and retreats to continue this tradition. The shelters love it, because they fit in the cat cages perfectly and the bed can go home with the adopted animal, so it’s something comforting for them while they adjust to their new home!
