Newsletter – 21 July 2016

Hello quilting friends,

Can I just say that July has been such a busy month. I find myself working on new projects, taking Milo for long walks, hanging out with friends in the sunshine, and doing gardening and maintenance work. No wonder I haven’t had as much stitching time at my sewing machine.

No doubt you will all feel the same way.

However, I’m thrilled to share with you all a couple of my accomplishments this month.

Maggie’s First Dance – A FREE BOM for All

First up, is my version of Block 2 of Maggie’s First Dance. This is a FREE summertime Block of the Month that you can join at any time, from my great friend Jacquelynne Steves.

Here’s my embroidered version of Block #2 complete:

I have never done any hand embroidery before, but I’m loving this technique. It’s so great to have a portable project that I can work on, during these lazy, hazy days of summer. Here’s my first block, hand stitched, and embroidered, Block #1 of the BOM, that I completed:

Just so you know, if hand embroidery is NOT your favourite technique, this FREE BOM also includes instructions for completing the various blocks using fusible appliqué. Because I needed to up-level my own embroidery stitching, I’ve chosen that method for my blocks.

Acorn Valley Flannels, A FREE Pillowcase Tutorial and a Give-Away

I am both honoured and excited to participate in the Acorn Valley Blog Tour featuring the gorgeous flannel fabrics, designed by Patty Young, for Riley Blake.

Personally, I love flannel pillowcases and I use them year-round. Milo loves them too!

With my sample fabric, I opted to create this FREE Pillowcase Tutorial for all to enjoy.

One of my own personal pet peeves, is when my pillow falls out of it’s case. Really, this should never happen! So I was thrilled to be given this opportunity to play with Patty’s Flannels, and to create an envelope-style pillowcase cover.
