Weekly Quilt Contest: Christmas Tablerunners

Can you believe this is the second last weekly quilt contest of the year? Where has the time gone. It sure has been wonderful to see so many fabulous quilts each week. Each and everyone is a winner in my mind.

The theme for this week’s contest is Christmas Tablerunners. This can also include placemats. Next week will be Christmas (not tablerunners). Please do not submit the same quilt for more than one week.

The Simplicity Creative Group has donated two CC Bigger Sewing Machine Magnifiers. The magnifier attaches firmly to most sewing machines, providing 2 times the magnification while sewing. It has a battery-operated LED light with easy-access switch for extra illumination. 3 button-cell LR41 or AG3 batteries included.

For me, this would really come in handy for those late night sewing sessions.

The two prizes for this contest will be awarded as follows: the first will be based on Voter’s Choice – each person that visits this site Friday to Sunday will have a chance to vote for their favourite quilt. The second prize will be Judge’s Choice.

Enter the Contest

Get your cameras out! To enter the weekly contest, read the rules and guidelines, then submit your quilt photo by Thursday evening (EST). Voting will start on Friday and last until Sunday night.

Last Week’s Quilt Contest

Thanks to everyone who entered last week’s Stars Quilt Contest. All of the quilts were amazing. I know many of us found it very difficult to choose just one favourite quilt. Thanks to everyone that took the time to vote.

Congratulations to Annie Sisk who won with her gorgeous The way home quilt. She won a Maison De Garance Fat Eighth bundle from Jojo’s Quilt Shoppe.

Vote Now: Star Quilts

photo-contests

Grab yourself a cup of coffee or two and browse this week’s gorgeous Star Quilts. Thanks to everyone that has entered and shared their beautiful creations with us.

The sponsor for this week’s contest is Jojo’s Quilt Shoppe where you’ll find fabulous fabrics at least 20% everyday. JoJo’s has donated a fat eight bundle of Maison De Garance. Oh my, I adore this fabric.

Now it’s time for you to vote for your favourite quilt!

  • Voting is open Friday – Sunday @ 11:59 p.m.
  • One vote per IP address (NOT email address), so have your family and friends cast a ballot for their favourite quilt (from home if you send it to coworkers)
  • Winner announced Monday!

How to Vote:

  • Review the photos and stories below… there are several, so you’ll need to scroll down to see them all.
  • Underneath the photos, you’ll see the names of all the quilts with a circular button** beside each one. Select the button for the quilt you want to vote for.
  • Then scroll down, all the way, until you get to the bottom of the names of quilts. Then press the vote button.

** Note: If you don’t see the circular buttons to vote, but instead see the voting results, that means someone on your IP Address already voted or that the voting period has ended. Shared IP Addresses are very common in home or work networks.

Sweet Mentions and Ottawa Creator Camp

I wanted to take a couple of minutes to thank two dear friends who took the time to feature the Quilting Gallery on their web sites this week. Your kind words, enthusiasm and support mean a lot to me. Thanks!

First up, Kari Ramsay from Fresh Cut Quilts Pattern Co.. I had the pleasure of meeting Kari at Spring Quilt Market earlier this year and we’ve managed to stay in touch via email. You’ll find lots of triangles and fun, whimsical appliqué in her patterns. Kari wrote a wonderful blog post about this site and the Quilter’s Cookbook. I wasn’t havingt a great weekend, so this really cheered me up. Thanks Kari!

Next up, my dear friend Susan Murphy. Ottawa has a very strong community of web folks on Twitter, and that’s how I met Sue a couple of years ago. She’s been a great help to me as I grow this site. She’s a fantastic communicator and listens really well. She helps me see my own potential and encourages me along the way. This morning on Twitter, I saw she had a new blog post. Of course, I clicked to read it. Imagine my surprise to see that she’s featured me and my site in her People Doing Cool Things on the Internet III weekly feature. Thanks Sue!

Ottawa Creator Camp

UPDATE: Plans change and I will not be presenting at this event after all.

For my local friends, I’ll be doing a trunk show of my quilts at the first-ever Ottawa Creator Camp next week. When I registered for the event, I was so jazzed to read “quilters” actually mentioned in the event description. (Hey that’s ME!) Last weekend a few friends and I were talking (Sue above too!), and they encouraged me to do a presentation. Oh my!!

I’m not big on public speaking, in fact, I’m terrified… but I’m going to do it anyway (I can always hide behind my quilts!) While most of my own quilts are not here in Ottawa, I have several that are in flimsy stage or even just blocks and I’ve received so many wonderful quilts from around the world doing the swaps. I’m sure I’ll have more than enough to talk about and show off. I’ll probably be the only one bringing in a suitcase or two to the event. I hope someone will help me carry it up the stairs. :)

If you’re local, I hope you’ll join us. Register here!

One of the quilts I have to show, is this gorgeous antique that’s hand quilted. Based on the fabrics I’d date it around the 1930s. My mom purchased it at an auction near her. When I saw it, I went a little crazy over it, so she decided since I loved it so much, it should be mine. Thanks Mom! Some of the patches need to be repaired, but structurally it’s in excellent condition. There aren’t any holes all the way through and the background fabric, binding and hand quilting are extremely good. I’m so pleased to own this quilt.

Question: Does anyone know the name of the block used? I’m terrible at names, but I just know someone will ask me and I’d like to be accurate.
