JRJAM-Header

I’m thrilled to be participating in the release of the Fat Quarter Shop’s latest free pattern, called Jelly Roll Jam. It’s a super-easy and quick pattern to stitch together. In just one afternoon, you’ll have two quilts tops completed.

One jelly roll (40 strips) will yield two 36.5″ square quilts… a perfect size for a baby quilt. Or add some borders, as I did below, to make it larger. I’ve turned mine into two picnic quilts which will be Christmas presents for my nieces.

Let’s get started:

What you don’t have any jelly rolls?

No problem, the Fat Quarter Shop has you covered. All Jelly Rolls are 20% off this week. The discount is valid until September 22nd at midnight. Pick your favourites here!

My Jelly Roll Jam Picnic Quilts

Without seeing the pattern, the Fat Quarter Shop asked me to choose a jelly roll that I’d like to use. I don’t often work in solids, but love the colours in the 1930s Bella Solids Jelly Roll.

I cut my border squares at 3.5″:

Planning the borders:

Auditioning the binding, I’ve chosen the dark purple:

Both tops have been stitched in the ditch along the 6″ block segments with invisible thread. Below is the quilting in progress on one of the quilts. I’ve chosen to use a design from Angela Walters Dot to Dot Quilting class.

I still need to decide on the quilting design for the other quilt.

Milo approves of the almost-complete picnic quilt. My quilts finish at 42.5″ square.

The quilting on this is great! And, I love that you did it in solids; I was looking at the Simply Ombre jelly roll and pondering what this pattern would look like if someone made it with solids.

What a lovely little quilt. And I love the picture of Milo – he really makes the quilt look good. But how will you get him off it?
