The stars are made from mens’ ties. The background fabric was chosen to look like a man’s suit. The two borders are made from the scraps of the ties. The shirts on the outside are real little boys shirts and the buttons in the stars are from the shirts. The little ties are from the ends of the ties.

I made this for my son when he moved to San Salvador, El Salvador to live for 2 years. A modern quilt design of black and white patterned fabric. The quilting is straight line using a black to white variegated thread, resulting in light dashes of stitching showing on the black background.

Lovely nature inspired shades of brown from the fields with bird insert surrounded by a half square triangle border. The bird insert is carefully outlined with hand stitching on the birds feathers . Measuring 32″ square, it is machine pieced and quilted by a beginning quilter.

When my son was about 16, I had him look though magazines and find a quilt he liked. He picked this Fons and Porter pattern. I spent a year or so collecting various blues, then another couple years making it. I finally finished this year – he is now 20! He loves it!

This is machine pieced and appliqued. It was a custom order from a customer last year. I love this quilt!!!

I appliqued the schooner on the center of the quilt…on the 4 corners of the first border; I stitched the compass. On the outside 4 corners I appliqued anchors….they were very happy .

Flannel top/muslin back. I was a pattern tester for Cindy at Quilt Doodle Doodles. When the top was done I sent to Mary at Quilt Hollow for my first long arm experience. My oldest son loved the finished quilt and it became his on the occasion of his moving to his first apartment.

My dad wanted a Crown Royal bag quilt, so when he got married, I pulled every last one I had collected and used a horse batik to make the 5 yard quilt pattern. I enlarged it to a queen. I love how the batiks accent the CR bags and my dad loves his quilt. He won’t let anyone take it out of his sight.

My mom bought the center square of fabric and wanted to know if I could make a quilt for my fiance from it. The pattern provided for the square was incorrect, so I improvised, made the border longer and appliqued deer silouettes to break up the lengths. He loves it!

I made this quilt for my husband in earth tones with the theme of “Browning.” He enjoys shooting sporting clays and skeet and for our 10th Wedding Anniversary I bought him a Browning shot gun.

The pattern is a nine-patch with machine applique. The quilt is machine pieced and machine quilted.

My Dad loves golf, if he’s not playing he’s watching it on tv. So for his 70th birthday this past February I made him this quilt. Except for a few traditional quilt blocks, I designed it myself. Since golf originated from Scotland, I tried to stay in the theme using mostly plaids.

Inspired by the book “Daddy’s Ties” by Shirley Botsford, I began buying ties and shirts at thrift stores (the men in my life are not retired). I also found the chambray at a thrift store to sash, border, bind and back the quilt. I quilted it on my old Bernina 930 and used shirt buttons as accents.

I started by sewing up a jelly roll from Connecting Threads. I used tan from my stash for the big blocks. And no clue where it was going. I used my 16″ square and just cut, designed, and sewed and this is what I ended up with. The only thing left was a 6″ strip. It’s just a top. Fun and simple.

I needed a house warming gift for a new cabin in the mountains for Mike. These moose strolling through the pines are perfect. Done with applique on flannels and homespun fabric. There are also a couple of bears on the edges cut from a brown batik that gave it a grizzly look. Very cozy — he loved it

My dad loves to go deer hunting every fall so for his 80th birthday I made him his own deer quilt. He was so happy and excited to get home to put this quilt on his bed. I even broke down a cook a deer roast for him that day but I didn’t eat it. It made his birthday so special and memorable.

I made this quilt for my son for his 30th birthday. I did a slightly different take on the Turning Twenty pattern, used 30 fat quarters to make 30 blocks, therefore the name “Turning 30”. There are no floral prints in the quilt. His little dog Freya was excited to have a new quilt to cuddle up on.

    Maria Von Trapp saw play cloths in her curtain fabric, and I see quilts for men in their shirts and ties. Thanks to everyone who shared a quilt. They are all wonderful.
