Hi everyone! The theme for this week’s Quilters’ Show & Tell is New Beginnings. This is an open-ended theme, and the interpretation is up to each individual quilter. The quilt you submit can be any style and technique and it does NOT have to be finished either.
To enter, read the updated guidelines then submit your quilt photo here! You have until Friday, January 25th at 8:00 a.m. (EST) to enter. Voting will start shortly after and last until Monday, January 28th at 8:00 a.m. (EST).
I do need a sponsor for this week! Contact me ASAP!
The guest judges for this week are Kim from Persimon Dreams and Thearica from Pig Tales and Quilts. They’ll both have 100 bonus points to award to their favourite quilt(s). I asked them both, what they’re working on, and here’s what they told me…
Hello everyone and Happy Monday! My name is Kim Lapacek and I blog at PersimonDreams. I always tend to have many different projects going on all at the same time. I started to write it out in paragraph form but I think I need to transition to bullet format to simplify it all.
- Joining the crowd in the #scrappytripalong
- AmysCreativeSide’s Dancing Stars QAL
- Craftsy Block of the Month
- A Lovely Year of Finishes to help me finish up my WIPs from 2012
- A modern sampler quilt for my brother
- A Granny Square quilt for the amazing woman who watches my children. (The fact that two quilts I’m working on have lots of WHITE is very uncommon for me but I am really loving how they’re turning out.)
- A squarey quilt using me original spoonflower typewriter fabric prints and hand-dyed pinks and oranges
Hi, my name is Thearica and you can find me hanging out over at www.pigtalesandquilts.com where I try to blog interesting things that happen in my sewing room and quilting studio. You will also see lots of photos of piggy related gifts that my friends send in and photos of our pig pottery that we collect from Western, NC!
When Michele asked me if I would be interested in being a guest judge for the “New Beginnings” challenge, I knew it was perfect timing for me to say “Yes!”. I am coming off of a 3-year semi-sabbatical due to the death of my mother and overall health issues myself. 2013 is a “new beginning” for me as I am going back to work full time in my quilting studio! I also built a web site last summer that offers supplies to crazy quilters and a few things for the traditional quilter as well. You can visit the site at www.crazyquiltingsupplies.com.
As this year unfolds I want to quilt more for myself but also begin to take in client quilts once again. Before I went on sabbatical it would not be uncommon to see 40+ client quilts hanging on the rack waiting to be quilted. Although I am going back to work full time, I do not desire to be in that position again. I never had time for my own quilting before and that is not going to happen again. I do very few pantographs or meanders although I do not turn those jobs away, they are a quilter’s bread and butter. I am at my best in the studio when I am quilting custom designs. I have clients who have won multiple ribbons on quilts we have worked on together and I have won a few ribbons myself just on my quilting.
The following crazy quilt was made for my granddaughter Allie for her 7th birthday. She loves pink, tea parties and fairies so I made her quilt with all of that in mind. I had it framed so she could hang it on the wall in her bedroom. So far, it is my best piece yet, or I think so.
I hope you will come and visit my blog. I am hosting 3 sew-alongs on the blog at the moment. Come and check them out! There is a tab at the top of my blog called “PigTalesandQuilts Events”. Click on that tab and you will find the information and direct links for all 3! I hope to see you there!
