About the Quilting Gallery

If you’re new here, WELCOME! I’m Michele Foster and live in Canada’s national capital of Ottawa in Ontario. I’m a transplant from the Toronto area having moved up here 11 years ago. I love it! In addition to running this web site, I’m also a self-employed web developer and am currently taking an intense pet dog certification program to become a pet dog trainer. I have a 14-month old puppy, Milo.

The Quilting Gallery contains several sections that you can visit from the tab above. By far, the most popular section of the site is the Quilting Bloggers directory that features bloggers from around the world. For Canada and the United States, you can also search for bloggers by province/state/territory. I welcome you to add your blog!

I host several FUN events on my site, including block parties, weekly quilt contests, swaps and blog hops. I’m also organizing a quilt block drive to benefit our friends to the south affected by the Sandy hurricane. Click on the graphics below for more info.

My Own Quilting

My own quilting seems to have taken a backstage while I’m doing my school work. I do hope that 2013 brings me more quilting time. I love scrappy quilts, paper piecing and appliqué. I plan to launch my own patterns next year. Earlier this year I also hosted a Beginner’s Quilt-Along and I have plans for a Level II quilt-along for next year too. Here are a few of the quilts I have in progress:

Favourite Canadian Quilting Bloggers

With so many talented Canadian Quilting Bloggers, it was really hard to choose just two favourites.

The first one is M-R who is also located in Ottawa. Her blog is Quilt Matters. I love that she’s used the Quilting Bloggers directory to travel the world and learn about quilting all over.

The second one is Jill, located in southwestern Ontario. Her blog is The Quilt Rat. She’s always trying out new techniques and sharing the results with her readers. Many will recognize her as a columnist in the Canadian Quilter’s Association magazine.

Our hostess of this event, Sew Sisters Quilt Shop, is giving away a $25 gift certificate to one of my readers. The give-away is open to everyone world-wide.

To enter the give-away, just leave me a comment below telling me what, if any, sewing you did this weekend. The winner will be randomly selected on Monday, November 26th.

Visit the other participants:

P.S. I have another give-away going on right now, enter here: Beam N Read Light

Congratulations to the winner:

I didn’t have much time to sew / quilt this weekend, but I did work on a Christmas gift for my son-in-law for Christmas – we each drew a name out of a hat, and we’re to make a hand-made gift for that person – and he’s getting pj bottoms (please don’t tell him!) I also worked on the next step for a Quilt of Valor mystery quilt I’m making.

My mother is here with me this weekend and we are sewing up a storm. So far mde the 1/2 square triangles for a block of the month for my guild meeting monday, we each sewed the top of a jelly roll quilt, and then 21 blocks each for a ‘spinning 4 patch’. Still have tomorrow to go yet.

No sewing this weekend but my dear MIL DID SEND ME HOME WITH A HUGH STASH of fabric and 85% completed blocks some Christmas aprons to sell. So excited

  21. Judy MacLeod says:

I’ve had a great weekend sewing. I just got back from a 5 week trip to Misosuri where I visited quilting friends, quilted my first quilt on a longarm (FUN!), bought tons of fabric and also got in some quality time on the trails with some really nice horses and their owners.
Dying to break into my hoard of new fabrics I’ve put together the center of my Christmas quilt. HSTs, 196 of them to be exact, made from 3 charm packs, Moda’s Share The Joy, and some really neat WonW I found. It looks like different sized white snowballs all over the white background. The center is done, and I’m trying to decide on a border(s). I’m leaning towards a zigzag made from flying geese, to frame all these HSTs and show them off.

  22. Tiffany says:

This weekend was spent cleaning up my sewing space so that i can start on a new quilt – the cutting mat and ironing board were covered! :)

  23. Karen O says:

  24. Inge says:

Oops…thirtysomething patchwork projects in progress, but I discoverd magic loop sock knitting…it is the season for it, isen’t it?
So for weeks now I’m knitting like crazy, when one pair is finished I do some patching, hexies, for the course I’m following, trying to keep up with the others. And in the back of my mind is al that quilting that needs to be done. Who says having a hobby is relaxing????
So, ok, I enter a give way, it is most important to keep up my stockroom with materials :-/

    Great give away.
    Cheers Lis
