How did you get into quilting?

I grew up in a sewing household but no one quilted. I think I gravitated to it at first as something new to learn and once I made my first quilt there was no looking back.

How/when/why did you transition from a quilter to a designer?

The transformation happened immediately. As I was sewing on my first quilt I was designing the next in my head. At that time I couldn’t wait to get to my grid paper every evening. I even had little quilt blocks already drawn out and colored and would play with them much like we do electronically on EQ etc. today. That second pattern was sold on eBay way before downloadable PDFs.

Which quilt is your favourite? Did you design it? Why is it your favourite?

A favorite quilt…hmmm…whenever asked this I always seem to go with the last one to get a label. So at this time it would be “Whist Jubliance”, although I have a stack of 4 more tops in the studio that I will begin quilting next week. Whist Jubliance is my first Pieced Hexie quilt and as to why it is a favorite is self-explanatory.

How many UFOs do you currently have? I am pretty good with the UFO control. I am thinking 3 at this time. Usually if I wane from a project I back burner it for no more than a year. If it doesn’t call to me again I will “Frankenstein” it into quilt bits and reclaim the fabric into the stash. I find this method keeps me from feeling overloaded and obligated to something that for whatever reason is just not working for me.

What size of quilt do you prefer to make/design?Truly ALL!

What colour do you use most often in your quilts? YELLOW! Or some form of it. Thus yellow-green, yellow-orange, etc. Yellow makes me smile.

Favourite one-sentence tip for a new quilter: Follow your heart and make what you like.

Favourite size and brand of rotary cutter: Olfa 45 mm

Favourite quote or mantra: This is my tag line and hangs on my studio wall. “If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun” – Katharine Hepburn.
