How did you get into quilting?

My kids were still small, and I was out shopping with a friend. We wandered into a little quilt shop, and saw that they were giving a beginner’s class for a small square quilt called “One Big Star”. We decided to do it as a way to get out of the house once a week! So what began as a strictly social outing turned into a hobby, and then a business. The little shop has since closed, but the fabric obsession remains! The cat has pulled out most of the stitching – but my first quilt is still in my family room, I still love the fabrics in it.

How/when/why did you transition from a quilter to a designer?

From my very first class, I was tweaking and changing designs. It didn’t take long for me to start designing my own quilts for my kids, nieces and nephews. I was making wool pins at the time and selling them at quilt shows as a gift item, and I decided that I would try to write out some of my designs into patterns and sell them at the quilt shows. Then a couple of years later, I went to Quilt Market, and was approached by someone from Henry Glass Fabrics and they asked if I was interested in designing fabric. My answer was a resounding YES!

Which quilt is your favourite? Did you design it? Why is it your favourite?

Spring Fling holds a special place in my heart because it was the first quilt I designed using my first fabric line, Sewing Room Social.

How many UFOs do you currently have? I cannot even begin to count…

What size of quilt do you prefer to make/design? Table toppers, because they are small enough that they don’t take too long but big enough that I still can count them as a quilt.

What colour do you use most often in your quilts? Red.

Favourite one-sentence tip for a new quilter: Take your time and enjoy the process.

Favourite quote or mantra: Faith is believing that one of two things will happen: There will be something solid for you to stand on, or that you will be taught to fly. Patrick Overton
