Weekly Quilt Contest: Bags & Purses

weekly quilt contest

The theme for this week’s quilt contest is Bags & Purses. Any quilting style is acceptable. Please only submit completed items.

Vicki Welsh is back as this week’s sponsor and she’s donated a great prize for the contest winner and she has a free tutorial for making a super-sized tote bag too.

It’s great to be back here at Quilting Gallery for another contest. I love looking at all of the wonderful things that are made by Quilting Gallery readers. There’s a lot of talent here!

I’ll be honest; I do not make a lot of purses simply because I carry only 1 black purse every day. But I do love a good tote bag. I recently designed an extra large tote to use for taking my quilts to my guild meetings. I call it the Show and Tell Tote but for you it might be the Soccer Practice Tote or the Holiday Gift Tote. You can get the free tutorial here.

I am not a tall person so I designed this one with 2 sets of handles. The short handles allow me to carry the tote with my arm extended and the tote will not drag the ground. I also have long handles so I can carry it as a shoulder bag. This sample was made with my Beach Walk gradient.

A shibori fabric will give you some great lines to highlight in the purse pieces.

A One Yard Cut of fabric is usually enough for a purse and you can find some great textures and color combinations to make your next purse special.

I can’t wait to see all of the great purses that you have to enter this week.

Let’s get to the prize!

The winner of this week’s contest will receive their choice of a One Yard Cut of hand dyed fabric plus a 2.5 yard package of my favorite fusible web, Mistyfuse.
